Separating Silencer from Catalytic converter

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Richard Savage, Jul 20, 2004.

  1. I need to remove the silencer from my motorbike but the join to the next
    section seems to be immovable.

    Advice and guidance sorely needed.

Only fly in the ointment is that the non-silencer half of the problem
contains a catastrophic perverter which may not respond too favourably
to excessive brute force being applied in the form of hammer blows in
    its vicinity.

FWIW the bike is an R1150GS

    TIA Richard

I thought that the cat was part of the silencer bit on Beemers?

    But then I'm often wrong.

You got the silencer unbolted completely and tried turning it round to
loosen the pipes? That's what I've done when faced with the missus' various
yamahas that needed silencers and connector pipes removing to fit more, er,
free-breathing systems.. Once you can get the connector to rotate within
the collector they normally pull out reasonably easily...

  3. Chortle chortle ;-)

Silencer must be refitted once Wudo elbow has been fitted.

Not on the boxer twins. Many GS riders remove the cat and replace it with a
Y piece to enable the fitment of less restrictive silencers. Remus is a
    popular brand.
