Try freeparking, buy a new domain (about 9.99 for 2 years), and send out
    emails from there.

    Only executables according to Google...

    Which seems pretty reasonable.

Frankly, in the OPs position, I'd be more interested in setting up an
ftp server or using something like Dropbox to dump big files, rather
    than using email.

And Virgin outsourcing to Google is probably a good thing.

  4. They haven't implemented the email switchover yet( for me) but from
what i can gather from the info they have sent is any exe files ,
microsoft database files , possibly spreadsheet files and from a
conversation with one of thier sales drones it could take out autocad
    files too

Same problem if i zip them

The issue is both inbound and outbound

As i get a lot of cad drawings emailed and specs for costing either
in exel or access its a pain in the arse

    rejected.

  9. Dont give them ideas.

I get the distinct impression they are moving away from being a
service provider and just want to be a service carrier .

  10. What he said. Far less ball ache and worry. Email services are cheap as chips
these days and are in dedicated server farms on ups systems with decent
    backups.

  12. Surely given that even windows supports dragndrop ftp these days,
everyone can just have a directory that is the remote repository? Once
    used, password recorded, simple.

  13. Odd. Postfix works fine for me. In fact, I hope nothing goes wrong with
it, as it's been so faultless, I've completely forgotten how it works.

Indeed. Unless you take notes when installing it. Now where did I put

took a blunt brush and painted...
    Heh, *ding* from me too.

I can remember how to add stuff into the header_checks file and reload it,
but configuring it again? I did all that over 10 years ago and have simply
copied the config file from old machine to new whenever I've built a new
    server.

Ditto for Samba, Squid, Apache, Bind.

Praise the lord for separate config files and no registry.

There are plenty of (often better) ways to transfer large files other
    than e-mail.

  18. I am aware of that however most companies dont permit that type of
access or the staff are unaware of how to do such tasks

Email is near enough idiot proof and can be sent to multiple
    recipients quickly
