What happened to Gib's last season?

I believe he had this superman attitude bought over from the previous
season(2004)where in that year it was Rossi and him until the last
couple of races. I think in the 2005 season he assumed it would be the
same again, except this time he would try even harder and be that bit
faster and that bit better and beat Rossi, the problem was as I see it,
he assumed too much and tried too hard. When leading races often he had
a good gap between him and the next rider then he'd crash, call it bad
luck if you like but I think he was pushing that bit too hard, his
attitude appeared to be be "look at me, I'm waaay ahead of you guys,
what you gonna do about it?" then he'd lose the front or whatever.

His attitude seemed to be to get to the front and stay there coz "I'm
better than the rest of you", unfortunately for him while that may have
been correct in 2004 in 2005 a very fast Hayden and Melandri were
knocking on his door, but rather than realise this and race them head to
head he seemed have to prove his superiority over them in disastrous
    consequences.

I feel if he had just got on with racing and had a head to head when
required he would have had a more successful season but he insisted on
trying to dominate and it didn't work to say the least. He had a couple
of bad luck races where the bike let him down but I feel he lost last
season by himself. A pity, much as I hate seeing him looking ridiculous
with his cap on backwards he's a talented rider and he can do well, but
I'm not confident he will do that well on a Duc, even if they make him
wear his cap the right way round.

He should have taken right back at rossi. I would
have taken him wide the next opportunity I had
just to show him that I couldn't be intimidated. Of course
that is easy to say sitting here at a computer. Somebody
(doohan? king kenny?) said that all of the other riders
are just too used to getting beaten by Rosii and just
always yield to him because they expect him to be
in front. Biaggi at least tried to get a little agressive
with Rossi (the elbow incident). In hindsight, I can't
believe how people got upset over that little elbow
thing, then turned around and thought the Rossi Jerez
    thing was ok.
