  1. As someone who'd been in a similar, albeit slightly more extreme
situation, I would caution you to think carefully about this.

In 2006, I saw my missus for a total of 5 weeks. The money was great,
but now gone. The corporate brownie points were ultimately worthless
and the damage contributed to a situation I am told is irrepairable.

You'll be able to get plenty of fucks in the future, but you won't get
back that time with your child. Although you'll miss out on a lot of
screaming and shitty nappies, which could be a bonus.

I wouldn't mind Wales, our client over there likes to in-shore
development to us, so I get to do it at home. And they run the
    country as well.

    Oh, trust me, I have.

I'm pushing for on-site three days, remote work from my office for 2.
Should be perfectly feasible as I'm doing a lead/pm/architect role,
rather than a development one. In fact depending on how the
elaboration phase goes, I will advocate off-site development if it's
    possible.

As it is, I tend to get home from work after he's gone to bed (6pm)
and leave before he gets up (7am) so it won't be too much different.
    It just feels different.

Yeah, I changed role somewhat, rather than just employer, and have
    avoided >50% travel roles since.

The only special offers Sainsbury's had were on the crap no one wants.

Morrisons had a special offer on 70cl JD, which is a product I like.

Bottle of Jack Daniels or something similar will be emerging from wherever
SWMBO has concealed it along with the port soon. Happy Chrimbo

As do I. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I've accrued enough
holiday at my new place to take the time between Christmas and New Year
off if I wanted to, but I elected to carry it forward.

I was disgusted to see that "Next" are opening their stores at 7am on
Boxing Day, thus ensuring that those poor cunts who are unable to get a
job anywhere else get their Christmas Day royally fucked-up, because
they have to be at work the day after.

Of course, if the terminally fucking brain-dead weren't queuing up to
get in at 7, this would all be pointless. But the mouth-breathers will
    be there.

You think what you like, it's a free country. Boxing Day is the 26th.
When the "official" public holiday falls is not (to me) relevant.

Boxing Day is the 26th. The public holiday is Boxing day, or the first
weekday thereafter that isn't already public holiday displaced from
    Christmas Day.

    Simple.

Oh, I'm sure. But I would not want to see anyone who didn't *have* to
(doctors, nurses, nuclear power station operators) working on Boxing
Day. And yes, I do count public transport staff amongst those I would
    not like to see working.

I like Wales, I like Birmingham, I like the <waves hand vaguely> the
North - what I despise is the shallow, lazy world of Barrat Home,
sneering, middle England where they feel superior to everyone else.

However, they're perpetually worried they're going to be ripped off but
see it as their mission in life to get one over someone else.

    Without really understanding why.

I liked the idea of the only shop open on a Sunday was the newsagent
    (until 10) and the pub.
