Lots of cultural stuff at Luxor but it is a bit hot by now.
Alexandria is cooler and has a few museums and archaeological sites,
if you want Egypt in summer.

Presumably taking in both Cairo and Luxor?
It's not too bad in June, I mean, it's hot, but it's not like Aug/Sept.
Maybe she just saw a cheap price, rather than a specific destination, so
you need to counter it. But cheap means popular, so wibble flip.

By later in the year, I mean November.

This trip she's looking at in June is a different one, and I think two
Nile cruises in one year might be a little excessive.

The all inclusive will only include local beer and wine. The beer's OK,
once you get used to it, but the wine is undrinkable, and a bottle of
foreign stuff will set you back 50 quid if you're stoopid enough to pay
    hotel prices.

TBH, that hasn't been my experience of All-Inc deals so far.

I found the Sakara quite drinkable. Didn't stave off the shits though :(

But you can buy antibiotics at any pharmacy in Egypt without prescription.
So if you take prophylactic antibiotics, use an alcohol based gel after touching
money or anything else, and smother yourself with insect repellant, you stand
a good chance of staying alive. And I nearly forgot, don't eat the salads.

YMMV - for example I've been on holiday to Egypt twice - eaten salads, had
drinks with ice in, etc. - and never had a dose of the shits.

FWIW I found Sharm to be almost completely soul-less; it's an airport, a
dual carriageway and a bunch of hotels, but it has sun, sea, pools, chips,
beer, etc. If you don't want anything culturally challenging from your
holiday then what's not to like?

She'd happily spend a week sitting by a pool reading books in the sun.

I'd rather get out and do stuff.

Hand wipes. I'm convinced sooner or later you eat finger food,
crisps, biscuits, something like that, then the problems start.

As long as 'stuff' includes diving, you'll be fine. Other than that,
well, not suer about Sharm, but some of the Red Sea resorts (Hurghada,
Marsa Alam, IME) have other 'stuff' like horse-riding, quad bikes and,
    errr, diving as well.

I've had a trip to Sharm to do an open water course pencilled in for
years but haven't got around to it yet. The main showstopper is vision -
I need to sort out some prescription goggles (or inserts) before I do
anything else because I'm blind as a bat and I don't get on with
    contacts.
I'm just going to knock the whole Egypt-in-the-summer idea on the head.
Original tentative plan was a cheap week self-catering in Fuerteventura
so I could do an off-road trip up to the American Star but that's pretty
much gone now so options are wide open.

She's really not got the hang of this whole dirt-cheap-last-minute
    concept.

  13. I liked Sakara Gold: 4% ABV and quaffable. Didn't get the shits.

You could hardly call it a holiday if you worry about touching anything &
squirting gallons of liquid shit out of your arse if you do. More like
eating out in parts of London :)

  15. 90% (A guess) of the shits that a dive group I go with to Naama (Sharm)
got was due to dehydration or lack of personal hygiene.

Out the bog don't wash their hands etc.
J and me have a very strict hygiene regime. Antiseptic gel hand wash
before eating and after the bog. J wipes down all surfaces we would
touch after the cleaner has been round with his rag he cleans everything
    with.
Never got the shits in many trips to Egypt.
It does have a few very good restaurants.

We go to the Red Sea about twice a year on average, the main object
    being to dive.
J has just got some prescription goggles that are ACE used them for the
first time last week in Naama/Sharm.

    Marsa has some good diving!
Jandia has the longest clothes optional beach in Fuerteventura if you
want to get brown all over.
I must introduce you to my next door neighbour with his own travel
    agency.

  17. It's fine so long as you don't leave the hotel.[/QUOTE]

This is true and not too bad if it's a good hotel.

    Reminds me of a tale:

Diving from the Robinson dive centre on the Jandia end of Fuerteventura.
An American I was diving with came rushing out of the showers after our
    dive and said:

Him: "There's a naked woman in the men's showers!"

A quick look over his shoulder and I could see one of the *very fit*
lady dive leaders taking a shower.

Me: "There isn't men and women showers here they are uni-sex."

    Him: "But she's naked!"

Me: "You do realise we are in the middle of one of the longest clothes
optional beaches in the Canneries and most people aren't wearing
    anything!"

Him: "Oh I didn't know, today was the first time I have left the
Robinson hotel complex. I've been here a week!"

Me: " Well try not to stare while you have your shower."
