I've been running the K and the F on Optimax for a couple of weeks now.

At first I was a bit suspicious that the claimed benefits were merely
marketing hype but in all fairness both bikes feel a bit more "perky"
    and responsive.

Could'nt find much testing apart from this Aussy site

Small but noticeable gains though ...

I use it about one in every 3 fills on the Daytona and thought it felt
smoother but, to be honest, I just put that down to a 'placebo' effect - I
think it'll be better and it is.
The fuel economy thing does seem right - I've also used it in the wife's MX5
and, in similar commuting circumstances over a 5 day period, it seemed to
get about 30km further before it needed filling up (its an import, so
technically a Eunos Roadster, not an MX5).

But that said, it seems the Aussies get one over on us again. Not only do
they only pay around bugger all a litre but Optimax is only 0.5 cents more,
whereas it's about 4-6p a litre more here...... Given an exchange rate of
about A$2.4/£1, why isn't it 9-14 cents more, eh? Bloody rip-off bloody
    Shell bastards.

I've seen the research facility and it looked quite impressive. A lot less
gunk in the petrol=a lot less gunk in your engine, hence it feels better and
    smoother.

I run the CG and the Bandit on it now. The CG seems to have less vibes,
and the Bandits tick over seems to have smoothed out a lot.

These 'enhanced' fuels basically work in the following way: A lot of modern
petrol engines can detect when the engine is 'knocking' (basically unwanted
combustion). _Some_ engines run an engine management strategy whereby the
spark timing is advanced up to the point where knock starts to occur,
detects this, then retards the timing slightly. In theory, this gives you
    optimum performance.

Optimax etc. are a higher RON rating than standard unleaded, which basically
means they're more refined, and knock will occur later - hence you can run a
larger spark advance before knock occurs.

If your car / bike is set up to base its spark timing on the point where
knock occurs, then it will take advantage of it, and give you improved
performance. If it's based on, for example, a standard set of tables for a
given speed / load, then it won't. This is why Optimax improves some
    engines, but not others.

If your bike doesn't have knock detection, and you were only ever going to
run your bike on Optimax, then you could alter you spark timing to give you
more performance. If you ever went back to standard unleaded though, it
    would run like shit.
