Just installed the Ohlins on the R1200GS Adventure, 7 hours for the front
shock, 5 for the rear and 3 hours to fit panniers. Just about had to
disassemble the whole bike to do it.

    Nev.. Guest

So you spend hundreds of dollars replacing suspension parts on a brand
new bike to bring it up to a standard which you find to be more
satisfactory, but your complaint to the manufacturer is about a key...

    So your point is Nev?

I have spoken to the Marketing Manager of BMW Australia Motorad about having
Ohlin's as an option on the GS range in over lunch May this year (it is an
option on the R1200S for an extra grand) he wasn't really listening, I also
complained about the poor seat design (I have a custom seat being made by
    John Morehouse).

Hundreds? A set of Ohlin's for the Adventure runs to about $3,000.

Actually I have spent a little more than $6,000 customising this bike to my
specifications; I have been using Ohlin's suspension for many years as I
find the improvement over stock to be staggering. My riding these days is
generally longer distance rally type riding with a weekend ride of 1,700
kilometres being normal with to occasional 6,000 kilometre ride in a week
being done generally once a year. Great suspension and a well set up bike
can make a 1,600 kilometre day possible and a 1,000 day comfortable.

Other modifications/accessories include a set of Jessee Alloy Panniers from
the USA as the standard BMW available boxes are really ugly wide and small.

The Ohlin's are vastly superior in those small freeway seam type bumps with
less initial stiction from the seals, superior performance in feedback and
    roadholding.
