Shunted... but seems OK

Got shunted at a round-a-bout today. It wasn't too hard, the bike got
lodged in the bumper. Are they designed to take these things? Or is it
a trip to the local garage for a check-up (at the other parties expense).

On another point, I've never been happy with the way we're trained to
move over to the left of the road when taking a left turn. I find cars
get up to all sorts of tricks when I'm slowing down. It's also the
reason I got hit, I was taking a left turn so was about a meter away
from the left, the driver didn't see me (in a high viz jacket) and
pulled into my space. You think it would be safer to stay in the middle
and command the road. I'd rather get hit by a pedal cyclist than a car.

Get it properly checked out. There are loads of things can get subtly
    fucked-up in this situation.
You pay your road-tax, I presume? Use the road, then.

Yeah, seems stupid. But it's on the CBT, Direct Access and Highway
code. So went along with it. Probably go with what makes more sense in
future and stick in the middle for left turns.

    Huh, what ?

For a left hand turn you're told to pull in to the left, with the
    appropriate lifesavers etc.

A roundabout is not a left turn, it's a lane that bears left, so
    command it.

If you move over in a lane, someone is going to try and occupy it.

For a left hander you should be near the centre of the road, for a right
hander you should be at the left, if you've been trained any other way then
you've either misunderstood the training or the instructor is stupid :)

    I'd say so.
Are you talking at traffic lights and such, or simply taking a left hand
    corner?
Lesson learned then. Don't go to that part of the road again. Stay in the
middle and **** anyone who doesn't like it.
    And obviously it is.
I'd rather get hit by a 2 year old than a kick boxing lunatic wearing
hobnailed boots , but we don't always have the choice. In this case you had,
but you chose the wrong one.

    What he said.
Which is what he said the Highway code says he should do, but he's come to
the (correct) conclusion that it's probably not the safest thing to do.

    too.

It's the other janitors you've got to consider though. Those who seem to
think that the white line is a brick wall or the entrance to another
dimension that people on "this" side aren't allowed to pass over/through.

They call it "Dangerous Driving" and with the best will in the world, you're
not going to win an argument with them at the side of the road.

No, he's come to the *in*correct conclusion that going left off a
    roundabout is a left turn.

    It's not.

If i'm exiting on a side road to the left, I do pull over in the lane,
to stop errant cyclists undertaking me. If a car pulls alongside me,
then so what, i'm going off that road anyway.

Where I don't want them to do that is at a roundabout, so if i'm going
left, i'm still slap bang in the middle of my lane.

if someone else is prepared to pay, then definitely get it checked.
whaaat? I was never trained to do this - have things changed? Turning
left at a junction, I'll at least be in the middle of the lane, and if
both main and side roads are wide, I may even be in the right hand
side of the lane prior to making the turn.
