  1. Blue it is, so it is dog slow but some minor fettling and it should be a
    half way decent little bike.

What is wrong with it, I may have cheap spares?

Oh c'mon, as machines go they don't get much more basic and still have
    two cylinders.

It shouldn't make it that bad surely?

Further back in time than my newsbase holds posts.

This one I have just bought has had a restrictor fitted and from what
the seller told me bits of it may/may not have been removed by him when
he did a carb overhaul. He certainly didn't set them up right and if
what I have got is not out of tune but just sort of restricted a bit
then 70 is probably slow even for a headwind. How much do you weigh?

Let off the front preload then.

    More news...

I just had a look at the certificate of restriction which was in the
little pile of provenance and section 2 paragraph 4c suggests it should
    be good for 91mph.

Intuition suggests that things should be made mushier but sods law says
the opposite may be true, it needs winding both ways to find out.

Implying then that it is road speed associated and not engine revs?

The thing I've found with Haynes manuals, or any kind of "instruction"
manual for that matter, is not to use the bloody thing at all unless you
really need it. If you start to tackle a job without it, you'll be in a
better position to see what's what when you do pick it up.
    There's yer problem, see.

Put the book down and just look at the bracket.

Can you see what needs to be done?

Try changing the bracket without the manual, you'll feel better for it,
    too.
    Good man.

Get a load of cable ties in, too.

    You won't regret it.

I fixed a RHS footpeg using nothing more than a piece of copper tube
with a hole banged in it. It even passed an MOT.

I think you need a pair of scissors to help you to snip posts first
.... here's a pair and a couple of spares for later:

My ex Barry Richards one was.

Improved a fair bit simply by having the valve clearances done, and the
    carbs cleaned and balanced.

Was still a disappointment though - sold it and got a CBR600. Mucho
    betterer...

On the list. I have got to source half a dozen bits for it and get in
there and get it done[1]. I am hoping for warm and sunny next week.

Yes, another 10 horses would be nice but the trade off is in size,
weight and bullet proofing and that would spoil it.

Up to 90 it will probably see off anything on four wheels so any gap I
might desperately need is mine for the taking and as long as it does
that sort of thing I don't mind the lack of the rest, too much.

[1] Anybody have any knowledge of paddock stands for these little
    beasties?

Erm, it was about another 40 horses, IIRC... reliably obtained ones, too.

I've got a rusty old homemade jobbie that Timo gave me with the TZR250 I had
    off him, ages ago.

A quick lick of paint, and it'll be fine for something like that, given it's
the same sort of physical size.

Yours for nothing if you want it.

Except it hasn't really, has it.

Hmm... I've got to pick something up from the Hertford area in the next week
or so - will let you know when I'm likely to be going that way, and can drop
it in on my way past if you still want it.

I've even got an unused tin of silver hammerite type paint you can have with
    it.
