I've put this off for a long time, but after a year and 20,000km on this
bike I have to accept I'm probably not going to spontaneously decide the
whole motorbike thing is not for me.

    Accordingly....

I actually got it before that happened, and I don't live in Britain, so I'm
    fairly confident it wasn't pre-salted.

You don't, unless you ride a BMW.

I did anticipate that, but I hope I haven't given him too much of a
    hook.

Incidentally, I see that some afficionados like to put their entire bike
history in their sigs. I think I'm still a bit newbish for that, but if
I did, here's what it would look like:

PC50 (written off in an episode of teenage fuckwittedness I've forgotten
    the details of)
FS1E (borrowed from brother for one afternoon)
    .... 30 year hiatus ...
F650GS (5 days rental to pass test)
    R1200RT

Interestingly, Swiss insurance companies were happy to offer me
reasonable rates on the RT, complete with full starting NCB and NCB
protection, *even before I passed the test*. They were actually happy
for me to ride it away with L plates on it (although in the event I got
an early test, and didn't have to). I don't understand how they're still
in business. I certainly considered myself an unacceptable risk.

Current bikes, yes - not history. That would make for some extremely
    long sigs.

Your newsreader has some kind of accent, but I can't quite place it. Seth
    Efican?
I see. Mine wouldn't be that long even if I added cars.

Only for very short values of history.

if it's any clue as to just how horrible, I think the Harley looks
    nicer than the beemer.

I sort of like the Beemer, but I think I prefer the looks of the ST over the
    RT.

I wouldn't buy one, but I like the looks of the HP2 megamoto.

Yeah, kind of "mildly admires from a distance" thing. In a tossup between
an HP2 and, say, ebay item 250156954712, I'd probably go for the old heap.

You're not the only one, actually, but I make no excuses for the bike. I
    love it.
