Sigh. It's only plastic

Well, luckily, when I say "rode off", I actually mean "pushed the bike
out of the parking space". So I didn't drop it, just wrecked the
    mudguard.

Many years ago, I did it on my plastic maggot after I had parked up at a
mate's house and he very kindly put a lock on it for me but omitted to
    mention the fact.

    Quite right.

Of course, if you didn't all live in such a shithole you wouldn't need
locks in the first place. I never used one after I moved over here,
and don't think I've ever seen a bike parked up with a lock on.

I see loads in Belgium but, since they're mostly chains about as thick
as a piece of string threaded through the back wheel, I guess they're
    not that necessary.

I use a disk lock when I have the bike parked outside the office because
bikes seem to go missing from there from time to time. At home I use a
FOAD Almax chain with a hefty Cisa lock and an old two-stroke as a
makeshift ground anchor - I never used to bother but after my garage was
broken into and my tools nicked last year I figured it was worth the
    investment.

On the plus side, I don't have to live in fucking Ireland.

That's pretty much identical to what I was going to post, right down to
the U-lock bit, so I'm glad I read this first.

Of course, I never rode off with the lock attached when I did use it,
it just got to the point where ICBA using it anymore.

Sounds like the voice of experience there.

I was guessing about 150 myself. I'll ring the dealer later in the
week. Going to keep an eye on eBay for a bit first.

Dunno bout that. I visited a mate in Brussels about 1993, whose
(Dutch) boyfriend had a Yam fxr750 (IIRC - AKA fazer, but not like the
later ones), so we went out on the bikes, and parked up for the night
outside their flat, using my cable lock, as his underground parking
    only had space for one.

Come the morning there was just one bike - mine. Plus a broken lock.
Which then lead to the most bizzare situation at the police station -
Flemish-speakng police, with Dutch-speaking victom, having to fill in
the paperwork in French, as that was the official language of the
    canton.

Bike was found later that day, with minimal damage.

The next bit always goes into Roll Away The Stone in my head. I'll have
to dig out the cassette when I get home.

Heh, I went down like a sack of shit in front of a crowd, narrowly
missing domino-ing a row of parked bikes.

Busted the brake lever. After a nano second o considering riding it
home I phoned for Aunty Carole to fetch me.

    Twas not a good day.

After a full 5 days in court I was ready for a good day out.

Unfortunately some mad bastard tried to kill me on the way there, and
then I binned it in the bike park on the way out.

    Not my finest hour.

Because I didn't want someone to help themselves to my almost brand
