  1. It's dark blue, 22k from new, every single optional extra AFAICT, and
utterly immaculate. L reg, but looks like it's only a year old, if that.

Straight swap with my dealer for the Trophy.

I know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but... damn.

I like mine but it's far too tidy so I don't really like using it in the
    winter.

The radio is audible at 110 when I'm wearing my openface with the visor
up (and the adjustable screen in the fully up position.)

The ABS is fun to play with...

However, it's a pain that I don't want the salt on it 'cos the K100's
getting old and ratty (115k miles, 21 years old, 3.5 years and almost
60k miles in my ownership with minimal maintenance ridden flat out
everywhere). It is starting to **** around with the starter clutch when
the oil needs changing, one fork seal on the way out, runs lumpy at low
revs, doesn't tick over nicely and when cold stalls if I don't keep the
    revs up

I'm seriously considering outing it, figuring I'll get about 4-500 quid
on ebay if I give it an honest write up and fix some of the outstanding
issues (tick over, lumpy running, fork seal).

I'm thinking about an early R1100RT or a Pan but really don't want to
spend more than about 2k, I think that either prospect should be
possible if I'm willing to accept some cosmetic challenges.

That's the one Dennis was advertising? With the odd stripe on it? I
was considering that one until I saw the price which I thought was a
    tad on amusing side...

So the backends of Peugeots are safe now, given that it's got ABS?

1100 Pan would be my advice then. 1100RTs aren't that great and early
ones have a quite a lot of teething troubles that aren't easily fixed
because the later model's parts don't necessarily fit...

Could you be specific about the teething troubles?

Of course, I defer to your knowledge on things that go wrong with
    bikes...

  9. Oh yeah, he had it up for 4k. Realistically, it's 3-3.5, because it *is*
utterly immaculate and very low miles (for a K).

    The stripe is coming off.

I could have got a better price for the Trophy - it's worth 3.5-4k
privately, but it needed two new tyres and a new MoT (so a couple of
    hundred spending on it).

And while I've always liked the torque and comfort, the fuel consumption
has always been a bit of a downer. The K is better equipped, in better
nick, comes with a new MoT and has a shaft. So a straight swap it was.

The K1100LT is also one of the very few Beemers I'd actually rate.

Yeah, but I figure that if I walked in there and waved three grand he'd
probably tell me to take a hike (seeing that he didn't/doesn't know me from
    Adam).
    Sticker, then? That's good.
Sounds like a reasonable deal then.

CIHAGM? I'm trying to work out if I should keep looking for one as a two-up
tourer. To a certain extent that depends of the state of a certain yellow
hippo but I like having options...

  13. Who needs pannier inners as long as Tesco makes carrier bags?

    Heh, me too.

Strangely, Katie doesn't like the pillion accomodation, or I'd
    definitely be considering buying one.

    for them.

For general running around, you're right not much use.

However, they're very useful when you arrive at a hotel having had a long
ride in the wet, just open the panniers and walk into the hotel with your
    luggage.

Yes, you can take the panniers off but they're less than attractive when
they're covered in 400 miles of road grime and dripping gritty water.
