OK I got some of this today - up 'til now a good mate's done it with
    Molykote (sp?).

Anyway I rode around and warmed it up, gave it a coat and it seems to
have 'dried in place' - I have whitish patches all over the chain now -
will that fade or did I do something wrong ? :)

As an aside I got the owner's manual. Engrish and a bike manual is let's
say very entertaining. I see me going in to the garage to fix something
and spending the next hour flicking pages and chuckling..

    eg
"This motorcycle always come on the headlamp when starting the engine"

    eww..

I am a scotoiler fan myself 48,000 ks on the one chain and not a smig past
the starting marks on the swing arm since new - on a ST2 Ducati

  3. Hi Dave,
What chain/sprocket combination do you use? Ive just bought a scott oiler
for my CBR1000F and am looking at what chain and sprockets to got. That's
some pretty impressive mileage you've clocked up!

  4. No all is good. Pre the R1200 I had a Daytona and used the Silkolene
    lube.
Found the white chain look quite matched the silver paintwork
    actually.

    Very little mess either.

Cool, thanks Kelvin. Just don't get it on the side of your tyres - a
bugger to get it completely off. :)

That should have occurred to me given the post but it didn't.

An astute supposition, Tony F :)

The whole point of the scottoiler is that constant lubrication will
cause your chain and sprockets to last longer. If you've paid for the
scottoiler to make them last longer, then logically you should buy the
    cheapest available chain and sprocket.

I don't think I follow your logic here.
Scottoilers are a fairly expensive way to keep a chain lubricated but
    requires little attention or maintenance.
Someone who fits one is displaying a desire for longevity and
low-maintenance over cost-savings so would assumedly choose as high a
quality chain as he could afford.

About 19 or 20 years ago Johno.
I had a big prang late '82 and didn't really ride bikes much until I bought
    my first XJ900 about '88.
I'd ridden an XS750, CX500, Z1300 and XJ750 shaftie before then but only for
occasional rides and I wasn't really paying attention to the drive-line.

I loved the Z1300 wished I had the money to buy one when they were new.

Wish I'd kept the Infamous MZ.

    And the RD250.

Those are the only ones really, the SR500 was OK but I have a Yam
single, the SR250 was awful, the Pantah was OK but didn't fit me so
when the chance came to swap it for the Yellow Devil I took it.

I do miss the 'Orrible 'Onda Chop, knowing what I do now I could fix
its problems and make it a much nicer ride. I'd like to have the
    waterbottle racing sidecar back too...
