Simoncelli's fault, or not?

  1. Didn't look like it to me. Although he didn't seem to query the ride-
through, so maybe he felt it was a good decision.

I thought it was justified. I know Pedrosa was going off circuit
anyway, but Simoncelli cutting him off like that didn;t give him the
chance to recover from the incident and rejoin the race. It certainly
wasn't bad enough to warrant a black flag, but with Simoncelli being
the subject of a few complaints of dirty and aggressive riding tactics
recently, something needed to be done in this instance

I thought he left Pedrosa absolutely nowhere to go. I'm not in favour
of penalties for racing incidents, in general, but this isn't touring
cars where contact is all part of the fun. If a rider is consistently
behaving without proper consideration for others the race officials
have to get involved. Whether a ride-through is the best punishment is
    debatable.

I've decided. The wop had his line and took it. It was smooth and he didn't
make any sudden change in direction. The dago sat up and fell off because he
had over-cooked it trying to get past on the inside.

    It's called "racing".

Eh? Pedrosa was in front at the time, having passed Simoncelli
successfully on the previous corner. It was Simoncelli who was trying to
get past when Pedrosa fell off.

That said, I think Ian Wheeler summed it up well on twitter yesterday...

"'Apparently overtaking is now regarded by race direction as an "illegal
manoeuvre". I hope Supersic does a Biaggi. I wonder when Marc Marquez
will be called in for his ride through penalty from Estoril? Maybe
they're waiting for his home race?'

I've just watched it on Youtube and whilst it's not 100% clear from
    either of the camera angles.

So Pedrosa is in front and has the inside line - if Simoncelli wants to
overtake him round the outside then surely he has to keep clear, rather
than slam the door on him, leaving him nowhere to go.

Or Pedrosa is in front and has the inside line, so there's no way
Simoncelli should be able to overtake him round the outside, ergo
    Pedrosa had already fucked up.

So all in all, I haven't a clue who was really at fault!
