Sintered pads?

Now, these pads don't have anything on them about flow rate or anything
    like that, so I'm lost.

Are sintered pads just better, or do they have to match the disc?

Flow rate? What? Are you drunk?
    No.

Just go to your local bike shop and say "Can I have some brake pads for
    an ER5 please."

You may want to insert the word "sintered" between the words "some" and
    "brake" if you
    a) want to spend a bit more money, and
    b) want to stop a bit better which may be of some use as you're in
London and there'll be a lot of fuckwits on the road.

    c) replace the discs on a more regular basis due to the higher wear rate on
    these compared to conventional pads.

    Metal on metal, innit.

    No, just being deliberately 'stupid'.

I'm just ashamed that my bike failed on obvious stuff.

The horn's fucking loud now though :eek:D

I was interested by the wear on the freelander discs.

The pads are virtually new (about 10mm of pad left) but they'd buried
themselves into the disc to the tune of several mm on both sides.

Either the pads are made of carborundum, or the discs were soft. I'll
keep a closer eye on it now ...

What do they make EBC Pro-Lite discs out of then? My old 9R has done
30k miles on one set of Pro-Lites and always has sintered pads fitted.

It's a Kawasaki, they've all had sintered pads fitted as standard since

Everyday I learn something new and interesting. Today I've learned
that those nice rusty discs on the 9R should have warped, worn wafer
thin and been scored to **** by my obsession with using sintered pads.

Actually I'm being a **** here because the bike always has EBC HH pads
fitted and works well with them but that's because they're designed to
    be used on Pro-Lite discs.

My 12R has stinky organics in the back and sintered on the front, for
    obvious reasons :)

It's the copper content in the pads that causes the high wear rate on
    the disk apparently...

All depends on make of disc and material. Certain discs are made to
suit certain pads, as Andy B has discovered. Kawasaki's standard discs
are fine with sintered pads, as that's what they leave the factory
with. A good replacement sintered pad is the Vesrah JL range because
Vesrah make 90% of Japanese factory fitted pads.

True... it's a mine field and it depends on disk material. I was
generalizing about folk that find their disk wear has gone up.

Strange... only you'd think if that was the case then 'Copper Slip' ought to
be made with something other than copper, really.

Would you? You know, just occasionally I credit you with a modicum of
know-how, although I'm not sure why. Glad that you pop up with posts
like this often enough to dissuade me from that line of thinking.

And I've just realised that my kf reverted to an old version when this
    machine was rebuilt last week.
