Does anyone know how & where they do the noise test at Silverstone? I
know it's a drive-by, but don't know where, & phoning them has proved
less than useful. Obviously 105dB at a hairpin is a lot different to
105dB at 13k RPM on the straight.

I did, & I replied, hours ago! Just gotta wait for the 'confirmation
within 3 days' email, decide which bike to take, & prepare to kick you
in the nuts if it rains.

Can you seriously not figure it out from my op, which included words
such as Silverstone, drive-by, 13k RPM, hairpin & straight? Iwht it's
obvious I'm talking about bikes going round the circuit.

If I look at the third hit Google gives for `silverstone noise test',
    I find

There is a static noise limit of 105dB and a drive-by limit of 102dB
for all general testing on the national circuit.

    http://www.ioa.org.uk/about-us/news-article.asp?id=156

So, if you're talking about 105dB (which I assume is a sound power and
not a sound pressure level), `drive-by' doesn't come into it since it
refers to a static test. A static test means you're standing still. As
I said: `noise of what doing what'?

Googling for `silverstone noise test 102db' give:

    http://www.visordown.com/forum/forummessages.asp?dt=&UTN=378672&V=5&last=1&SP=358145344682466931288

which might be what you're looking for.

Ah. I didn't Google the limits, I went by what the Focussed Events &
Silverstone websites say. There's no mention of any other limits on
either of those (just 105), & when I rang Focussed, they just said it
    was a 105 drive-by limit - nothing about a static.
Not sure if that makes it better or worse really. If you exceed 102 on
the drive-by, they pull you in for a static, & if you exceed 105 on
that, you're sent packing. But what if you're 105 or under on the
static? The MV's a smidgen under 105 using the usual static routine
(50% max RPM, one meter away at 45 degrees), but bugger knows how
you're meant to know if it's under 102 on the drive-by.

So did I and a reply has been sent.

Given the current work schedule I suspect I might be off that weekend
and if I am then there's no reason why I can't attend. If I decide
it's a goer then accommodation in Bedford on the Sunday night will be
on offer (1) if only to ensure that alcohol is brought into play as
    the great leveler.

    (1) Tent space in the garden.
