I really wouldn't mind if some group of evil swine on the mainland were
to start picking off Plod anywhere he was seen to be waving a Hairdryer.

I was rather peeved in 1997 when Clamping/Removal came into force in
Lunnon that Provo didn't have the foresight, imagination and sense of
fun to rig carbombs with tremblers and park them in awkward places.

Oi Bee, we have a new job for you.....

Well, you won't be dialling a phone then ;)
Oh aye. And what happens with these funky cars that sense the key fob in
your pocket, I wonder to myself?

No, I think it must be the key. I can't see your option making any sense
    at all.

So pulling off the road and parking up to make/answer a call is illegal,
    what a bastard!

  11. No, it's not. It's what you are actually told to do, instead of making
the call while the car is moving. the copper got it wrong, and the twonk
was too silly to argue the toss in court.

Well they did my wife for it and when I discussed it with JP his view was we
couldn't fight it. We did write to the Chief Constable but he didn't even
have the good manners to reply.

More relevantly: "The ban also applies to driving while stopped at traffic
lights or in a traffic jam. While the car is under the control of a driver,
then that driver cannot use a mobile phone. An exception is made in lengthy
tailbacks when the engine is turned off."

I think the third sentence applies here. Of course that assumes the cop
knows what the law is and, as we have already observed, they have been known
to make the law up to suit the occasion.

you can drive a car perfectly easily without the keys in the ignition. just
let the handbrake off, and give it a little shove if it's not on a slope.

Not sure my definition of "perfectly easily" would match yours - have
you ever tried driving a car with power steering when it doesn't have
    power?

Then crash at the first bend when the steering lock kicks in. Not
possible in most autos either - won't go out of Park without the keys
    in.

    <thinks>

Why am I taking this seriously?
