BUPA doesn't apply to existing conditions though? I've got to chase an
ultrasound for this thing in my neck (most likely cyst on salivary
    gland) that keeps swelling up.

Simply that having health insurance is a bigger benefit for you than
life insurance. If you're dead, you're dead and the insurance will only
make it easier for those left behind. If you're injured then a nice
comfy private ward and swift treatment would be of more use than life
    insurance.

It doesn't... if they know it was an existing condition.

I've already been referred. Hey ho, I'll ring ENT tomorrow and find
    out what's going on.

Watch out Nick, burnt is doing one of his bird imitations. He's watching
    you like a hawk.

I see. My employer pays for full bells and whistles Bupa cover should
    I need it.

My Bupa policy covers all conditions old and new, as long as the
condition isn't chronic (ie. incurable) but it really does depend on
how much you pay for it. Thankfully my employer pays for it all for
me, and all I pay for is the tax, which is on £450-ish a year. I have
to pay the first £100 excess a year and that's it. For example, last
year I had to use them for an old medical condition and the
consultation cost £75. I paid it and should I have used the policy
again that year I'd only have to pay the first £25.

Not sure how this compares with normal Bupa policies as my employer
insures 3,500 staff on it plus it sells Bupa as private medical
    insurance anyway.

In which case you're in the clear.

Now; Helmet, check. Boots, check. Armoured jacket, check. Trousers,
    check. Gloves, check. Healthcare, check.

    Clear to ride...

Well it will use more petrol, so that would be bad, I suppose. And any
throttle input will be transmitted quickly to the rear tyre, possibly
increasing wear. Then again you'll always be able to accelerate or
engine-brake quickly without changing gear, which you may think a good
    thing.

Personally I'm with Lozzo on this - Quite often I'll not even bother
changing out of sixth for a 50kph limit, unless I know I'll want, and
be able, to accelerate quickly once it's finished.
