    Hi,

Whats the best package that Sky are doing at the moment.

I dont need Sky Sports, but do need Eurosport.

The UK TV channels the other half wants, but dont care about anything else.
I want to downgrade as much as possible.

    Recommend?

Sky are launching a Freeview alternative. I plan to get it for my mum as
her analogue signal is shit [1]and contaminated with foreign language
channels like S4C. She'll be able to get C5, C4, non Welsh BBC plus a load
of other free to air channels like Eurosport.

However, there is no hint of a launch date in this BBC story
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/3790127.stm or on Sky's homepage.

[1] no terrestrial digital signal either

Dunno. I get the full Sky package bought and paid for by Number One
Son. Come the day he wants me to take over paying for it I shall be
cancelling the subscription entirely. It simply isn't worth paying for.

  10. you just want the basic subscription package - Sky Family Pack without
subscription channels (£19.50 a month). You get Eurosport, all the
digital versions of the terrestrial channels plus all the diy, food,
auction, music and other tat channels to keep you mindlessly glued to
    the telly for days.

If you want movies then you will need a more expensive option.

You don't happen to know how to get the domestic channels from our EU
neighbours? Most of the stuff offered by Sky doesn't really interest me.

I got my hands on an analogue sat dish plus receiver for eurosport. Only
cost me £25 new and shows every MotoGP race live.

You'll have to put up with 120 channels of german home shopping rubbish but
until the beeb pull their finger out and start showing proper bike race
    coverage there's little alternative!

Not on Sky, is the simple answer. So you'll need a second (or
motor-operated) satellite dish and decoder. Available for about 50
    quid in France.

BUT, While that'll allow you to beam in from a variety of satellites,
with about 3000 minor domestic German channels, a few Italian,
Spanish, etc. and about three French language channels (1 Swiss, 1
Belgian and 1 franco/german), plus all sorts of wierd and wonderful
(not) stuff, it won't get you most of the 'normal' national channels.

For this you'd also need to take out a subscription package in said
country (in France that'd be Canal+ or TPS) which will have it's own
card-based encryption and require a local address.

Ah, thanks for the (disappointing) info. I'd have thought that with all
the wonderful EU schemes we'd have had an easier time of getting these
    channels.
