Slow-action throttle?

The Monster's throttle has quite a short action, which is fine if you're
confident and used to riding powerful-ish bikes.

However, if you're someone who's a bit out of practice, and was only
used to riding a lardy old 600 anyway, you might find it to be a bit
    sensitive.

I know there are plenty of aftermarket "fast-action" throttles
available, but does anybody sell "slow-action" throttles?

Just spray some furniture polish on the seat. She'll learn to cope.

Yeah, but will I learn to live with the black eye that I'd get shortly
    afterwards?

  5. All depends on the setup - is it a conventional cable operating a lever
or something similar? It would be perfectly possible to use an older
throttle assy and fiddle with the leverage at the client end.

It's FI; the "business" end has a cam of its own, IIRC.

  10. In that case...
You can fiddle with cam ratios; if there's a suitable cam available that
will fit the FI spindle (or however it's held on). If it's a pot, it
might have a protruding standard shaft.
A quick-action bar end will be married to a q/a FI end, so I doubt you'd
be able to do much with the existing bar end throttle, as it's basically
    not got enough travel.
What you have to do is go up in size, both at the bar end and at the FI
end, to slow the throttle action.

Smaller at the bar end, or bigger at the throttle body end, surely?

There are different tubes available which should replace the
existing one - basically a larger diameter on the cable end
which means that for the same degree of rotation it will
pull more cable. So you want a smaller diameter one.

Or check out the different types of throttle assembly. I'm
guessing that as the S4R is the 996 engine it will use the
same throttle as that (the 748/916/996/998 set) ? Maybe
one from an SSie would be a better throttle as I'm sure
    these are different.

I know that the old carby throttle assembly has a lot
slower action than the FI assembly as I bodged my original
carby one on the race SS when we fitted the FI engine.
I swapped to a proper FI assembly which I bought new from
Red Racing for less than second hand on ebay AND you got
    new OEM grips with it!

    See: http://tinyurl.com/9rpwe
#352003 (second down on right) is the OEM 916 assembly
which runs at 65deg to WO
#357203 (third down on right) is the OEM carb assembly
which runs at 94deg to WO

    I don't think they are removeable/replaceable though.

Forgot to add; I think I still have the old carby
one in a box somewhere if you want it FOC to try
    and fit it.

  15. Well, it depends how much travel there is available on the existing bar
end pulley. Disconnect it and see - if only a part of it is being used,
then fine, you can keep it. But I was thinking you'd probably have to go
bigger at the bar end and then choose a pulley for the FI end that would
be bigger than original anyway - but quite what that size would be I
    don't know.

I suspect the original bar end pulley will run out of movement before a
bigger pulley on the FI end is fully open. Bicbw.

  16. That buggers that, then.
Smaller diameter pulley on the bar end, then.

I didn't think they would be, and I didn't really want to have to fiddle
around with that end of things.

Yes, please! That's a twin cable throttle, isn't it? I can just ignore
    the "closing" side.
