Small bearings, bushings, springs, widgets source ?

  1. General question.

Has anybody come up with good retail sources for small
mechanical parts such as generic springs, bushings
    etc. ?

I'm looking at a rebuild that may involve the replacement
of some small plastic bushings that are unavailable from
the original bike mfr. I found a few part specs, but haven't
figured out a good retail source, either local or online.

Other stuff needed may include a few springs and other
small mechanical parts. I haven't pulled the part and
started exploratory surgery yet. I'd like to have a possible
parts source or two in mind before I do.

I'm in the SF bay area if anybody's had good experience
with a local supplier. Internet sources would be great too.

    TIA

  3. Not bad. I probably should have mentioned though
that I'm really looking for ** Metric ** widgets, which
these folks are a little light on.

I've bookmarked the site anyway though. They definitely
have lots of widgets, even if they're American sizes.

The bushings I found were made by AFM, but so far
I haven't found a place that stocks them.

First thing to try is your local phone company Yellow Pages (and if your
local town or city is too non-industrial, try the next nearest "big" city).
This is how I found a bearing company around Philly that supplied me with
whatever I needed for a European car's transmission. They didn't even want
to know what it was for -- just took out calipers, measured the old bearing,
and brought out a perfect fit replacement. Best thing about industrial
suppliers like that is the price...
