Sorry Mate I *Did* See You But I Carried On Anyway Because You Were Trying To Cut Me Up. On the way to work this morning I'm getting lined up to turn into a side road and am indicating away and lining up. There's a car parked on the double yellows about 20-30ft from the junction so I'm having to go wide of the car. Just as I get along side the car and I'm slowing and lining up for the side road the car pulls out from the kerb and accelerates towards the space I'm aiming at. Lots of horn action and I *stupidly* assume that once the driver sees that they've pulled out on me they'll stop or at least slow enough for me to pass in front. But oh, no, because they decided that I was cutting them up, they carry on and their front wing contacts the Beemer's pannier. Luckily I stayed on and kept it upright. She stops and starts shouting at me about me cutting her up and when she's calmed down I explain some "pulling out into moving traffic etiquette" to her. Anyway I suggest we inspect for damage and there is a slight new mark on the Beemer's pannier, but nothing compared with all the rest of the marks that are on there. The pannier carcass is fine as are the brackets so the bike's fine. The car on the other hand has a rather conspicuous scuff on the front wing. The driver examines the front wing and declares there is no damage to the car. OK, if she was looking at the correct wing, the one she hit me with, then she might have noticed the scuff, but there you go, I wasn't going to tell her. I gave her another talking to about pulling out the way she did, though I don't think it did much good, and off she went on her merry way. What did surprise me was just how shaken I was by the whole thing, even though it was so slow, so minor and I stayed upright. Ah well, it gave me an excuse to buy myself a poncey mocha coffee thing.
