On the basis that there's nothing that's worth knowing that isn't known
    about by someone on UKRM...

Anyone any experience of running SMTP servers on a windows box to allow
SMTP mail to be sent from a pc connected to the Internet via an ISP that
doesn't offer an SMTP mail server (btopenworld)?

Gyp was seen penning the following ode to ... whatever:
The main problem I can see with this approach is that a lot of ISPs
backlist email that is originating from dynamic IP address and not
routed via your ISPs mail server.

Des Coughlan was seen penning the following ode to ... whatever:
Not if the ip address block is being marked as a dynamic block, or
listed in any of the large number of rbls as dial-up or dynamic IP
block. Most of the big ISPs do so, and I'm pretty sure BT does. Oh,
and to send email, you don't need an MX record.

And I don't even want to mention that RFC 1035 clearly specifies that
the name of the MX is a *domain name* and not a fucking IP
address. People who stick an IP address into an MX record should be
punished with a minimum of 5 years supporting Windows desktop users.

I've been running PostCast since I went to ADSL a month and a half ago.

It's the only SMTP server I've ever run, so I've got **** all to compare it
to, but it was a piece of piss to set-up, costs nowt and delivers mail
    without any problems.
