    Probably not as big a problem as you think Tim... that is a Ducati 500
    parallel twin and running (and making the pipe hot) isn't so much the
    issue as is catastrophic failure!

    The only other bikes that come to mind with similar reputations for
    'reliability' are the Yamaha XZ550 V-Twin, the original Honda VF750S and
    the ill-fated Honda MVX250 2 stroke V-Twin (which just about all by
    itself managed to turn a factory the size of Honda away from ever
    building 2 strokes again! :)

    It is a Ducati parallel twin. It's an even bet as to which happens
    first, the top end blowing up or your leg being burnt.

    Hence the fashion for using them as a base for a special. For the
    time they had good brakes and good handling.

    I nearly bought one a few years ago to put a motor in, either an XS650
    twin (which is just about drop in) or a dirtbike single, but someone
    bought it before I made up my mind.

    Probably. XS650 motors are way over-valued.
