snobbishness?

Maybe if scooter-boys nodded back they may get included. Mind you, I
have started using the continental two-fingered salute instead just to
see how many people I can confuse.

    Just a thought....

lots of us bikers nod to each other when passing on the road. It's a nice
    friendly habit in my view.

I always get this when riding a 'proper' motorcycle, but when I am out on my
trusty old Honda 90 I get completely ignored.

Silly isn't it? I'm the same person and the cub 90 is in many ways probably
just about the best bike ever built....

we are all 'real' bikers, whether I'm on my fast heavier expensive machine
or my beloved old cub... which has carried me around europe and which is
about the fifth or sixth one i've owned...

    thoughts anyone?

  4. I sometimes get ignored on my 10 but quite a lot on my GS, particularly by
sports bike riders. When I had my XT350 I always got ignored but I put this
down to the fact that it looked like a learner bike from the front.

It's a nice gesture but on a fine day can get quite annoying. I mean the 10
is painful enough after a distance without a self induced tick thrown in :).
And wtf are you supposed to do when a whole heard comes the other way?

Sort of the way Landy / Mini / Beetle owners do.
It's a thing built into most people. The mind set that you have to
forever go bigger / faster when changing bikes, or upgrading as people
sometimes like to call it. Maybe it's not that, but a tribal / clique
thing... who knows. People each get on their bikes for different
reasons, which are as varied as the machines they ride, that's for sure.
I enjoyed my C90 too, in the same sort of way I enjoyed my CG125 now.
    Isn't considering yourself a real biker a bit snobish, I dunno. What's a
real biker anyway? One that worships at the alter of all things bike
every day, or the car driving office worker that goes for a ride at the
weekends for a thrill (to check they're still alive).
Yes.. quite a lot usually. :)

Make a revving motion with your right hand, and a "do a wheelie" motion
with your left. Also, wiggle your right eyebrow only if it's a 40
limit to let the other rider know.

I'm not going to automatically "show respect" to someone because they use a
2 wheeled form of transport. Most bikers are wankers anyway. Just read this
newsgroup to see how many people would nod at each other if they actually
    knew them.

Get out of the seventies Ian, we don't have that mentality anymore.

I was thinking the same today
Took the b/bird to work this morning and superbike riders appear to ignore
    the nods
however, if I take the R1 out, they all respond
I seem to remember having the piss taken out of me for nodding at a scooter
    don't care really
Europe kick their leg out rather than nod
As for cops, I spin my finger over my helmet (in a blue light kinda way)
    indicating a copper ahead.
but if no-one knows that one, its a waste of time lol

Generally that's only if you've overtaken someone. More common is just
sticking the left hand out in a wave, sometimes just two fingers.
A generic 'slow down'pushing an outstretched palm towards the ground
    is more universal, IME.

If doing it on a bend, the closer the hand is to the tarmac the more
    cool you are ... apparently.

I've also had someone make a circle over their head. I wondered WTF was
he on about when I saw the copper tucked away. I guess he meant a
    revolving light.
