Snotoilers

  1. Were one to be considering buying one, one may be inclined, nay drawn
even, by the idea if one can afford the extra investment one should
purchase the touring kit. However one wonders if those with appropriate
experience or prejudice might inform one of the advantages if any of not
doing so? With special attention paid to the general lack of touring
that one is hoping not to do on an item of chain driven discerning
    gentlemen's personal transport.

Advantages - you don't have to fill up as often (duh!), & you don't
have to find somewhere to strap the standard reservoir.

Disadvantages - it'll make the mudguard rub the wheel if you've got a
    VFR VTEC.

I don't think I'll have a problem particularly with the GS, there is
loads of space all over the place.

I don't know tbh, not being one of those people who keeps records of
such things. I just know it's much less often since fitting the touring
kit - once or twice a year.
The VTEC is the only bike I've heard of that has that problem. Tigers
also have an issue in that the touring reservoir pushes the number
plate back to the point where it's no longer illuminated - but I don't
    gaf about that.

It attaches to the side of the touring reservoir, behind the number
    plate...
....but possibly not if you do that.

I note from their web site that they now offer a device called a 'Lube
Tube' which might make a suitable halfway solution.

Had the standard one under the seat for a long while, but then went and
    bought the touring reservoir...

The standard I had to re-fill about every 150-200 miles, depending on how
warm it was... reservoir, a couple of times a year.

I bought the dual injector kit at the same time. Seems to work well... 35K
on the chain and still going strong...

How often?! FFS, I'd have to refill it twice a week most of the time.

Let me guess: your back wheel was covered in oil as well, wasn't it?

Don't you think you should have turned it down a tad?

I'm fairly sure I used to get ~1000 miles out of a fill when I had one.

I keep meaning to try veg oil in my Snotter - less polluting, and should
clean the back end up - veg oil should dissolve the old clagged-on dino crap
out of the chain guard etc.

    FFS.

I mean, I've always thought snotters were a waste of time, but if you
have to refill the fucker _more_ often than you'd normally lube the
chain, there must be something wrong with the adjustment. Shirley?
Or a 'normal' attitude thereto. I don't consider it 'laissez faire'
that I only kick the chain and tyres every few hundred km and oil it
every couple of thousand (unless it's _really_ got soaked, when I
might do it twice in that period). Anything more frequent than that
belongs back in the 1970s when a) bikes _needed_ regular fettling to
keep running and b) shop services were things only the rich gits[1]
    did.

[1] And, of course, c) I wasn't one of them.

Mine is set very low, so the chain is just dripped on occasionally,
which is all I think is needed.

It didn't quite empty out over 1500 miles.

Not *covered*... just litely speckled :)

My chain *is* very clean though, and as I say, its done 34 thousand odd
miles, and I just dont even bother checking it these days, as I have to
adjust it about once a year, at most... so I spose its doing its job :)

I have fitted one of these to my Gixer because I don't have a rear
