So farewell... Redline

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Richard Pattle, Nov 2, 2004.

  1. Just found out that Redline Honda/Ron Parkinson, which accounts for just
about every franchise except Yamaha in North East Essex, has gone bellyup
    due to 'financial pressures'.

Can't quite see how having a virtual local monopoly in a boomtime for
motorcycling, and being in the RiderPower top 10 nationally for customer
satisfaction year on year could have generated these pressures. Perhaps the
owner's Ferrari wasn't such a bright idea. Looks like I'll have to buy a set
    of spanners.

    Anyone know what happened?

    Richard Pattle expressed the following:
    9/11?

Or it could have been because of Enron.

Those are the usual excuses anyway.

Onyerbike are always very busy (at least on weekends, which is when I tend
    to drop in).

They have also recently built a new showroom and a dedicated parts building,
so either they are doing okay, or have borrowed a shitload of money.

    I guess time will tell.

This was discussed at length a couple of weeks ago
    when it happened.

However, I do know that Chris Carr has bought out
TecMoto down inside the M25 and is re-opening it
this weekend. He's got Paul the mechanic from RPs
working for him under the TecMoto name, which may
    be a GoodThing™ or a BadThing™ depending on your
    viewpoint (or CliqueyDucatiClubMembershipStatus®)
of how well RPs did at servicing.

He's also after the Ducati solus franchise for Essex
which he won't get because somebody else already has
it and are about to open up shop on the A12...

The phrase "stitched up like a kipper" springs to mind...

  7. A *what*????

How would you define a boom, and more importantly, why would you
describe the current biking era as one?

Boomtime? You're having a fucking laugh.

They overspent and undersold and went bust. Simple as that.
