So that's the last I'll say on the subject for the moment.

Well, that's it then. Done and dusted, my first half marathon.

1 hour 48:05(according to my GPS watch thingy).
1 hour 50:58 according to the 'gun' time but since it took me about 3
minutes to pass the start line that explains the discrepency.

Didn't go too badly, seemed to spend most of my time consciously slowing
down because I was worried I was running too fast and at risk of burning
myself out. I think I could have done 1:45 if I'd pushed harder, that's
for another day.

Don't think I've picked up any blisters either.

Well done. I accompanied my running partner to the Reading half as bag
carrier, where amongst others, he was beaten by an emu, Scooby Doo and a
camel. He still did good though, bless him.

IIRC the bet was for under two hours, wasn't it? I'd have paid you
anyway, so you didn't need to go to all that trouble. Ah, no, it was 20GBP
for under 1h40.

Did they have salmon[1] in the race too? There was an entire school of
them at last year's Bay To Breakers that we did.

Well done Steve. When do you think you'll attempt a full one?

 

Thinking about Berlin at the end of September but it's a busy month for
me with work; and it's close to my daughter's 18th birthday[1]. Not
really sure. I'm pretty certain I'll do a full one at some point.

I'll chuck an application in for the London Marathon for 2008 but don't
expect much luck.

I've another half marathon in September in any case so that'll keep me
running over the summer.


[1] whiling away time in a meeting I booked a ticket for Reading Rock.
The person next to me asked who I was going to see, I felt very old when
I had to admit I wasn't... it was for my daughter. He probably thought
I was too old to go anyway.

 

Heh. Not after three months training and about 300 miles getting
prepared.

Actually, it is all in the preparation (like spraying so I
understand...) I've run more than 10 miles on each sunday for the last 8
weeks so when it came to the race it really wasn't that bad. I was
apprehensive for the first six or so miles but when I got to about ten
miles I was quite confident I'd finish. I ran the last mile in about
seven minutes and felt OK at the end. I could have ran faster.

Dunno, see other post. Maybe October. *Probably* next year. However
if someone I run with suggests something that looks like I can find the
time to train for then I guess I'll book it.

 

Not bad at all. Today I averaged 8 minutes a mile over only seven
miles.
