Finally got the insurance on the tractor sorted out, after an extended
period of explaining things to CN, so I thought I'd take it for a little
bimble this evening. It started okay, struggled a bit when I put the
sidelights on, died when I put the headlights on. Hmm. Tried the lights on
their own: faint brown colour from the bulbs and the ignition lights go dim.
That'll be a flat battery, then.

But why? It was okay before. Then I remember the switch under the seat,
    which I'd imagined was a not-very-well-hidden anti-theft[1] device. I guess
it actually isolates the battery to stop the charge leaking away to earth or
whatever. As I'd not bothered to switch it off, this would seem to be what
    has happened.

So the battery's on charge in the shed, and I'll try again tomorrow.

    [1] yeah, yeah, "as if".

The GlodWing's got one of them. A previous owner has wired in a relay
that stays energised when the ignition's off. The switch isolates the
    relay. Cnut.

Of course, you *have* checked that the previous owner didn't get shot
because of the mysterious, untraceable, charging fault.

    Haven't you?

Although "Police are not interested" is more likely.

Nigel's 'Wing has one of them although the thought of it being an anti-
theft device is comical. The fairings enough to do that.

  15. Not exactly the same thing. Not at all.

A decent outfit doesn't handle badly, but they *do* handle
asymmetrically. In that left-handers are totally different from
right-handers, as we all know, kiddies.

(What side is the chair mounted on Platy's? ISTR right-hand chairs being
banned many moons ago. ATC three-wheelers were as well, come to that.)

Anyway, there's a damn steep learning curve...... Punctuated, often, by
    several holes in the scenery.

I could get round tight right-handers on my old outfit faster than *any*
solo. Left-handers, OTOH..... an old boy on his 1950-s Raleigh would
    probably be quicker.

Right-hand chairs are ilegal from 1981 onwards, which is a pity, cos you can
only get the 2WD outfits with a right-hand chair. There's no safety issues
beyond what you'd get with a LHD car, and no-one's been able to
satisfactorily explain why they're banned. My chair is on the other side,
    of course.
There's going to be a certain amount of ballast deployed...

Nice. Every loom I've ever changed has been due to some cnut adding
their own circuits[1]. I'm guessing it's not fused either?
