    Jeans?

I didnt save the thread and cant remember the result*.

The 2 main brands descussed were Hood and Draggin Jeans (?), what
    brand won?

*I know, Im not brilliant at the best of times, but my brains still
trying to get back to "merely dim" mode...

I'm not a believer, oh sorry 'jeans' no chance for me, they dont make
'em in my size & they flap like a spastic on crack.

So what does come recomended? Could be warmish, so something in a
    light colour would be good.

True that. After all, breaking one's legs simply chains the victim to
a computer, leaving him free to type, blog, post on the Usenet and so
on, whereas with broken arms the Usenet is safe, but the patient is
still free to roam around, doing... erm... well... OK, maybe I do
prefer my arms to my legs, if I do have to choose. ;-)

I was an ATGATT safety nazi the first year of riding, then reality
caught up with me, so I do sometimes ride in "civilian" jeans, if it's
only a few kilometres in city traffic.

Besides, the main type of injury against which motorcycle clothing
protects is road rash. Which is not life-altering, only painful. To
protect against fractures you need mainly luck, and sometimes a bit of
    strategically placed armour.

Bollocks - they work fine /as/ motorcycle trousers. I've crashed in
    cords FFS.

Well, i've broken my leg and my hand on separate occaasions, the're
both a PITA if you work in IT.

If I was going to go back commuting in London, i'd definitely root out
    my Sidi TAE-Flex's again ...

I really can't imagine wearing jeans under another pair of bike
trousers, surely you end up with something several sizes too big that
has all the armour in the wrong place?. My Gericke cordura stuff I
wear as I would normal trousers, on their own.

I'd never be able to wear bike gear at the office. Trousers folded up
in my backpack along with laptop is the only option I've ever used.

Kevlar re-enforced jeans are dedicated motorcycle kit, so you are missing
    the point.
It is not so you do not have to store the above, it is to give you
options. This weekend I used my leathers, that was the warmth/protection
    option I wanted.
Just because you own it, does not make it the best, by all means offer up
your opinion based on it, but that was no reason to dismiss the jeans
    option.

Owen appears to have a specific need, and wants advice based on that.

You can feel as right as you want, but when it comes to wearing jeans I
am happier with the kevlar type, I wear them in warm weather and have
worn them to work, many times.

It is each to his own.
    More valid than than yours.
You have no experience of the subject matter, so are in no position to
    offer advice.

No. In the coldest weather (that I am prepared to ride in so not that cold)
I wear a pair of Swift cordura type trousers over normal trousers. They
come with a winter liner which I remove as my normal trousers serve that
function. The Swift trousers have long zips on the legs so I can get them
on/off over boots, so I can Swiftly remove the over-trousrs and stash them
in my top box before going about my business. In the evening, slipping the
Swift trousers over my day clothes is a quick & simple process.

Leathers are bloody hot in hot weather, but I want protection. I could
wear white leather trousers, but I wont. I figure dedicated armoured
m/c jeans must give fairly good protection and be cooller in hot
weather than my armored leather ones.

Perhaps thats what I should have said in the first place...

I find this to be considerably quicker and more convenient than taking
a change of clothes to work with me.

  17. The problem with armoured textile jeans is that unless they are of the
ultra skinny fit style jeans, the armour won't stay in the right place
when you have an off. That's why leather jeans are typically quite snug
    fitting.

What 'motorcycle jeans' do, allegedly, offer over normal denims is a
better resistance to tearing and being grated through by tarmac etc.
Although again, that does rather depend on them no just hitching up
your leg and leaving it all exposed.

IMV, the best compromise if you want protection during hot weather is to
wear a wicking layer under leathers or cordura trousers. I use EDZ long
    johns under my leathers.

Although, when it is really hot I tend to ride in jeans or combat trousers.
When I was in Croatia, riding along the Adriatic coast I didn't bother with
    a jacket.

You are from the camp of "I'm always right. even when I was wrong" aren't
    you ?
This was not about *YOU*, even though you wish it was.

It was about Owen asking for advice on jeans. Of which you have no
experience what so ever and can not add anything to his query.

So, please feel free to go and offer your in formation to the thread
about "What should I wear to rice to the office that is not jeans"

If there is not one, please feel free to start one.

Now be a good boy, have an early night, you have school in the morning.

I never had the armour in, I don't have it in leathers, so I don't have
    it in the jeans.
Granted, but tests show most slides are on the arse, which is why the
    kevlar is there.
