So, what was wrong with this R1100GS?

It's in Plymouth so it's miles from civilisation, that usually puts a
few people off bidding on things.

You're taking finding a bike for the Elephant quite seriously aren't
you? Just use the K and hope for the best.

  3. The fact it has done 63k and it is admitted that it looks it, does not
come with a brand new MoT when being nidged out by a dealer and that
auctions everywhere for larger bikes seem to be ending with prices lower
than the expectations of the seller. It seems to be turning into
something of a buyers market and I can confidently predict it will end
the week before I finally save up enough pennies to enter it.

    - It's still the arse end of the holiday season. It looks like this year
was especially a buyer's market, as my failure to nige out the 400/4
for anything reasonable, and the cost of both the Harley and the
    Laverda suggest
    - It's got 63k on it and looks like it hasn't been serviced for nearly
10k (or at least there's no record of it). At least it's got a new
clutch, which is good because that's another shite job on these
    - Usual BMW finish issues that the seller admits to
    - 1100s are getting old-ish and are feeling the price pressure from the
1150s, which have become fairly cheap as well

Hardly an issue on an 11 year R1100.

Ocean has a very good reputation. I'd be surprised if they were trying to
sell the bike without disclosing something major.

I'll stick a post on UKGSer and see if someone there knows the bike...

  7. Hmmmmm.....

    It's a bit leggy.

It's being sold by a dealer, with no warranty, which to some people
implies "not good enough to go into the showroom".

And a lot of stuff on Ebay isn't making any kind of money atm.

I think it could have a lot of use left in it; if the design's anywhere
near as good as the Ks.
Well, I bought my K1100LT from Rainbow under pretty much the same
    circumstances and don't regret it.
I guess it's the time of the year, yes?

There's no requirement for a guarantee but SoGA would cover it. Plus some
other stuff. See Citizen's Advice guide:

Well, 1150GS yes. Like mine, these are getting on a bit now. Some with
astronomical mileages. I think anyone considering an older R-GS would be
better to have an early 1150 anyway. So many more have been sold in the UK,
due to the R-GS as a fashion accessory crowd. As the bikes get older it
will be easier to source used parts for the 1150 [1] due to the sheer
    volume of them.

[1] yes many parts are common to the R1100 but I'm thinking more of the
non-mechanical parts such as seat units, lights, tank etc.
