So what's a VX800 like?

  1. I don't think I want a Glodwing any more

So I'm thinking of selling bike & car and getting a '99ish BMW 328

And the VX800 looks like a good bike to get

They handle "differently" (very 80's rather than modern fat tyre
stuff) tend to fall in at low speed and take a bit of pulling in at
speed (don't ask me why), they go well enough, generally reliable as
they are very underpowered for the CC's and will pull about.... not
sure what it is in kmh but I used to get about 115mph out of mine.
Comfy provided you like naked bikes, otherwise bung a screen on it.
Two-up is ok, they don't really seem to mind.
Consumption is not too bad and the shaft drive is less intrusive than,
    for example, a Beemer.
And they go round badly ridden R1 Power Rangers at Glen Helen *smirk*

  3. well, after reading a bit they still sound interesting...cheap too

does anyone have any other ideas for a V-twin shaftie under $5K?

I like the XLV too, but it might be a bit tall

    If you're a shortarse, there's the NTV650 "Revere".
    If you're a cheaparse, there's the CX650.

V65 Guzzi? T series GUzzi? If you look you may even find a bigblock
like an SP or even a LeMans.

Do be careful with Larios, they are famous for chocolate cams. Some
love 'em some hate 'em. I haven't paid a lot of attention to how
difficult they are or what the fixes are, but I expect Mario at
Thunderbikes in Perth can tell you.

Dunno.. I'm so used to them I can't tell :)

Lighter than my Pantah, but not super light is the best I can do.

But then you don't use the clutch a lot. Chuck it in 4th and leave it
there for most city riding, 3rd if you want more acceleration.

I'd ask Sharkey about what it's like trying to find XLV750 parts before
you go down THAT route! ;-)

Good move you probably wont notice a lot of difference between the Wing and
the Beemer although engaging reverse is a slightly different proceedure

The VX though , should be a very cheap option , a reflection on its less
    than substantial resale value
Did its model run survive longer than 3 wks?

_I_ have no trouble finding XLV bits, there's a heap of them in the
shed. For the moment, though, I'm hoarding them until I get mine
running. Sadly, that doesn't leave a lot for the rest of you bastards.
Nev..'s just moved to Shedsborough too ...
