So what's the angle then?

I just had a phone on my mobile from a stranger mobile where the
caller was clearly fishing for my name by pretending to be calling
from the "Combined insurance company of America" Where he claimed I
had an insurance policy. I don't see what he'd have gained from
    getting my name.

    Any suggestions?

CICA do or did exist. Some sort of accident policy that generally got
sold at race meetings by dodgy geezers. From what I recall, the
    insurance is a rip-off.

It could well have been a genuine sales attempt.

CICA do still exist and their guys can still be found in race paddocks
at the weekends. In 1981 I had one of theor policies that paid me 50
quid a day when I was laying in hospital after my big accident and 25
quid a day while I was recuperating at home. I let it accumulate and had
a tidy sum saved up after 4 1/2 months on Reggie Hart Ward and 4 months
at home - enough to buy me a newish RD350LC, a 2 year old Capri 2.0S and
a holiday in Malta for a month with plenty of cash to spare.

    I'm a modern man, I don't mind buying tampons, but apparently they're
    not a proper Valentine's present

Well, including Lozzo's experience, I guess that I did them an
    injustice.

I have actually had two policies with them, one from the days I was
backmarkering my LC sometime in the mid/late eighties, which IIRC I
actually took out in the paddock at Brands, and I recall many years
later discovering that I was still paying for it. At that time, having
read the policy document, the payouts seemed poor given the premiums.
About this time as well I recall someone else saying that they were a
rip-off and that probably confirmed my views.

LOL, we had CICA for a while in '82 ish, when I was road-racing sidecars
and proddies. Used to work down 't pit at the time and our favourite
'nest-egg' was to twat a finger/thumb with a hammer so the nail went
black. If it did go black you got £150, if the nail dropped off you got
£250 .. or somesuch amount that was reasonably large in '82. ;)

  7. Au contraire. I had occasion to claim from them for a period of several
months and they coughed up no problem. At the time they were about the
only ones to offer courier cover (in that, they didn't care what I did
    for a living).
