I bought several boxes of bits a couple of months ago that consisted of almost a GT750 (kettle) with a lot of miscellaneous kettle spares. I phoned the premium rate number at DVLA, gave a droid the registration number that was on a number plate in the pile of SOB bits and was told it was last taxed in 1984 and should be coloured blue. The question is.... can I SORN it on the plate I have as it is on their database, albeit 20 years ago, or do I have to apply for a new plate, or do I shut up about SORN until I finish the re-build (6-9months) and worry about it all then. I hope to avoid re-registration as it seems easier to send a chimp to the moon!!! TIA Ras GT750 red, GT750 dead --
Yup, I own a frame dunno if it belongs to the plate though, can you SORN a frame number? or can my local helpful post officr guy tell me what registration the frame relates to. Cheers. Ras --
Rasman99 says... Apply for a registration document for the registration number you have. Where it asks for chassis number put 'Unknown' in the box. It will come through with the old number in there. When it arrives check the frame number against the frame you have. If it matches then all well and good. If it doesn't then you have two options. Scrap the frame you have and send the document you received back as scrapped, or restamp the numbers on the document into your frame. I don't think there is a way they can cross-reference frame numbers to a reg number when there is only a frame number to go by.
They couldn't, or wouldn't, many years ago when I retired my LC from racing and put it back on the road. I had to go through the whole re-registration faff, including having a bloke come and check it.
Pip Luscher says... If you don't have a registration number to go by then it can be a PITA. If you have a legitimately obtained frame with no V5 and a V5 for another frame I'd just restamp the V5's frame number onto the frame with unknown reg. Saves alot of fucking around with DVLA.
I was advised by my (our) local office that they will not issue a registration document without a VIN
Ovenpaa says... I've done it plenty of times in the past when I've acquired vehicles without a document. In some cases, when I was buying and selling Mk1/2 Mini Coopers I bought cars that had no ID whatsoever, just a registration plate to go by. I wrote 'unknown' in the box where it asks for chassis number and they always came through with the old chassis number on the docs. I'd buy a new chassis plate from Mini-Spares and have them stamp it up to satisfy the US customs people.
My statement was based on dealings in 2004 after an enquiry to the Luton office for registration of a VOR with missing VIN and log book but declared registration number.
Sounds like the one for me Lozzo, anything to keep it simple, I fucking hate paperwork and dealing with arseholes that are happy to make things as sodding awkward as they can! Ras --
IIRC they changed the rules this year so you had to have a renewal form or a V5. -- Adie (replace spam with nickname to reply) UKRM FAQ: http://www.ukrm.net/faq/ Triumph 955iSS / GSF1200 bandit (pending) / CG125 MRO#11 BOTAFOF#7 BOTAFOT#130 DIAABTCOD#17 MIB#24 YTC#16 BOB#15 ex-UKRMMA#22 BOMB#11
