TBF I am pretty obsessed with getting such things right so I blag days away
with everything on the list until I find out what's right. Does this sound
    like Darcy?

    I don't own a Carrera 4, but I have, it was a 2001 car. For values of 2001 I
don't think you can get better for: performance, running cost (not main
    dealer!), handling, residuals etc.

If you want midrange price fun I'd go with the RX-8, or the Ford ST which I
freely admit to having not driven but it sounds kosher. Big older saloon?
7Ser every time. Cheap speed/fun older M3. Wanna be area sales manager,
    330Ci.

Standard abbreviation for porsches is C2, C4, C2S, C4S etc. 997 is the
current model. 996 is the last and pre 2004 version.

How do you work that one out?

I'd have compared an SV650 to an entry level Golf rather than a GTi.

The Gti is pretty much entry level now - some versions only produce 115
    bhp FFS

The SV is mainly purchased by riders who've recently passed their
tests isn't it? I don't think many car drivers who've just passed
their test buy a Golf GTi as their first car.

I don't even own a car and I don't waste my time on entry level bikes
so perhaps I'm completely wrong on this one.

**** off. I don't care if I never own a car again. Adie owns a car and
I get a company van, another car would just take up valuable bike
    space.

My SV is more like a Ford Capri 2.8i. It promises more performance than
it delivers, and the handling is less than sporty. Brakes aren't really
up to it either, but for all its faults you love it because it's fun and
    dead comfy.

Never drove one of those. I beat mine mercilessly and it kept running
like my '52 Bug[1]. I think comfy is relative, I got back on mine after
riding the V-Strom for a few months and it felt like my feet were tucked
    in my back pockets.

[1] I rolled it on to the roof, crawled out, rolled it back on the
    wheels and drove off.

    I had one of those.
It wasn't quite as dire as it sounds (reasonable power to weight ratio
    I would guess).

Not really very quick (0-60 in 9 secs), but acceptably fast enough for
an everyday work hack, would happily hit 120 if pushed. Voracious
appetite for oil, like no other car I've ever had.

I think you'd better look up the term 'entry level'. From VW UK's
figures, the actual entry level model, the Golf S retails at just over
12k. The bottom line GTi, OTOH, would rush you for just over 20k.

They're all based on the same floorpan obviously, but trim levels,
engine output, wheels, paint etc are all marked up on the GTi over the
    S. Would you like to try again?
