Yesterday I put a replacement engine into my old cx500 that has been off road for a year or so waiting for the transplant. Fired it up before tightening down all the nuts and bolts just to make sure it was OK. It fired up quite quickly and sounded good - no nasty rattles or clonks. let it run for a bit - no water leaking, no oil drips. Feeling really happy that the replacement engine was a good one it was back into the workshop to torque everything up and complete final fettling such as radiator shrouds etc. Got it nicely sorted and started it. I let it run for a bit to warm up..........hang on a minute, where is that oil coming from? Leaking rear casing gasket, that's where. I reckon some numpty has re-used the old gasket and damaged it in the process. If it was just an occasional drip I would have left it but this was a steady flow and couldn't be ignored. So its engine out again again for a new gasket and while I'm at it I'll do the cam chain and mechanical seal. The REALLY annoying thing is that it showed no sign the first time I started it, it had to wait until I had spent another hour on the final stages before showing. I guess the oil hadn't quite warmed up and thinned enough for it to show - sod's law! Then I found that David Silver had sent the wrong master cylinder repair kit - bugger! Then I found out our main drain is almost completely blocked - so that's a call to Dynorod on Monday with the consequent expense and hassle - buggery bollocking fuck!
