    She had a (Y-reg) Fiesta 1.6 before that which was crap to drive
    (boingy-boingy suspension and brakes made of the finest teak) but had an
    absolutely storming engine that felt like a turbine. Mazda Zetec design,
    iirc, built by Yamaha.

    I was in a mate's 56-plate Golf GTI the other day. Taut to the point of
    discomfort. My Cupra has a pretty good balance but both pale in
    comparison with the 306 XSi I had before.

  3. Nicky's mum has just bought a new Fiesta - and it's quite nice. But the
    crime was, she sent her old one for scrappage - obviously as it got her
    2k off the new one. The old one was a P reg, she's the only ever owner
    and it had less than 30k on the clock. It was like a brand new car - the
    main outing each week for her was to the local Bulgarian hand car wash
    who did it inside and out each week. Bloody crime to scrap it.
    I have a TR7 like that...
    With the C-MAX we wanted a nice easy to use new car for her really - as
    she will be carrying a little passenger shortly the priority was more
    ease of use and space for the accoutrements than out and out loveliness.
    Plus, as I have a relative at Ford we got 1500 quid off the new price,
    lots of extras chucked in etc etc - ended up costing less for a brand new
    car, than the two year old one they had on the forecourt.

    Does it actually get scrapped though, or is it fed back into the trade?

    I had to buy something reasonably sensible because V was outing her
    Focus, no longer needing it to drive to work. Had she kept that, I'd
    have gone with plan A and bought an Elise.

    Has to be scrapped, whole, within (IIRC) a week of coming in to the
    dealer if they want their £2k.

    I doubt it's really scrapped - probably just fed back into the trade
    somehow.
    dear god.

  7. Allegedly they get scrapped, otherwise the stealer don't get the
    government money.
    :p

  8. Really gets scrapped. Wrong but true.
    I didn't realise you had come out of the closet.

    exactly my concern. You'd think there'd be some sort of law against
    it.

    Yep, there are.

    It's called "find the £2k to fund the customer's discount from somewhere
    else within a week of the car coming in".

    I was also thinking along the following lines:

    * you're a breaker[1]
    * you've just been handed a mind-condition P-Reg Fiesta to scrap
    * you happen to have the VIN details/V5 of another (wrecked) Fiesta
    from the same year
    * you're not totally honest[1]

    hmmm...

    [1] I realise this is a tautology.

    I'd have to stand on a chair to look like the sputum dribbling,
    Discovery driving wankspanner anyway.
