As I fully intend to be in an escalating state of alcoholic
inebriation within a few hours, I just thought I'd say the usual now
and get it over with. To all of you, whatever, wherever and whoever
you are, a Happy New Year, whether you celebrate it or not.

Except for - no, even to you.

  4. Hell, starting that early it's doubtful you'll see the new year in
    still standing.

Okay, overstated a bit - first beer ETA about 7.30pm. Happy?

To you too from Pixie Central :)

I suspect that I shall try to stay sober as I appear to be developing
a rather unfortunate aversion to alcohol.

  7. Isn't it more likely to be something in the drink, rather than alcohol
    itself?

I know my mum developed an intolerance for wine with too much sulphury
stuff in it, which wipes out most of the wines she liked. Sticks to
    organic stuff now.

And from here in Belgium. Only 3 hours of yodelling and fucking oompah
    music to go.
Thankfully, F-i-L is recording it so we can do it all again tomorrow!

No fireworks tonight though? News here is reporting it cancelled due to
    a terror threat.

    Aw, shucks...

We don't, strictly speaking, celebrate 'New Year', as ours was in
September. But a small beer or three might be called for, all things
    considered.

I do hope so. The trouble is that so far everything I drink has the
same effect, instant headache ... wine (sneezing accompanies that
too), whisky, port, cider, beer, you name it. It's not much fun
having a hangover before you even finish a drink I can tell you :)
That may be a route to investigate for sure.

Heh. I was listening to a story about that on Flemish radio. Much
unhappiness on the part of the NL authorities apparently.
