Somewhere in Brissie to do some practice?

Can anyone recommend somewhere in the Brisbane area where I could take a
couple of people to do some bike handling skills practice?

Need a large, flat area with a decent surface to do some drills on steering,
braking, slow speed control etc.A scarcity of cars and pedestrians would be
    useful....

Not having been here that long I'm not sure if such a place exists.

    Cheers,

    Chris

Yeah, I think I've seen that area Clem - there actually seemed to be some
formal training going on at the time though so I figured it must be a
dedicated training area and off limits to the general public.

Might have to take another look and see if anyone can use it.

    Thanks,

    Chris

The back carpark at Toombul shopping town is the only place I know of.

What about carparks of infrequently used facilities e.g. Boondall
entertainment centre, ANZ stadium, bus & railway stations on Sundays....
What area and days are you talking about anyway? There's a lot of very
quiet new industrial street around Yatala on Saturdays and Sundays.

That's a good idea. Most Park 'N Rides will be empty.

    Hey MikeH,

Somewhere on a Sunday most likely. I'm in Morningside but don't mind riding
somewhere. A space where I can set up some markers to do some steering
drills and braking at speeds up to 60km/h or so would be good.

The entertainment centre/stadium sounds like a good idea. If they're
anything like the carparks at Sydney Olympic Park used to be when no events
were on then they should be well empty. Don't know the Yatala area?

    Thanks for the suggestions.

Probably the best one I know of at Yatala is a new industrial area off
Stanmore Rd on the west side of the M1 by about 500m only.

Travel south to Yatala exit which also says Jacobs Well.
Cut west under M1 and thats Stanmore Rd. After about 500m take right at
a roundabout, or turn right at following T, and you're into it. Possibly
    2 klm of new roads.

If you go past some carnival workers club or whatever, you've gone too far.

There are only two entry roads and about 6 buildings so far, so down the
back it's very quiet and no through traffic. Your should find a 200m
straight stretch (new roads) and corners where you get plenty of
visibility over vacant industrial blocks. Actually makes a nice quiet
loop where you get lots of warning of anything coming.

    Good luck!

Yatala pie shop. Motorway exit 38. The car park is full of cars and
not much good for riding practice, but worth the stop for a pie anyhow.

Makes the trip to visit to gNatalie's grandparents on the Gold-Coast
    worthwhile.

But most have security cameras ... it's quite possible that a
visit from grey-uniformed goons could occur quickly.

To the logical mind, there is no reason.

But they are bureaucrats. That's what they do, annoy people for
    no good reason.

Cars get stolen and girls get raped in park-n-rides and no one bothers to
    turn up then.

Because they're not following the instructions. You're supposed to park
and ride, so you'll probably have to do some parking practice too.

  20. Try the Chandler Aquatic Centre carpark. It's on the corner of Old
Cleveland and Tilley Roads at Chandler. Don't go on a Sunday, they have
markets there now... apart from that it's usually very quiet. I've seen
driver training in there once too.
