Hmm <thinks> if she claimed falsely she committed an offence whether she was
    rumbled or not.
Insurance companies pay out all the time rather than take up court costs if
    they deem it cheaper.
They sometimes stop paying out on long term policies where fraud has become
evident without also taking court action too, again to minimize cost.
    You are mixing issues.
I said it was fraud, which it is if the circumstances the OP described are
    true.
It then came out she was in NI.
I went on to describe the sad state of things legal in Norn Iron.

Probably. He didn't know any better. The fact that she then buggered
off without as much as giving him her own name is still a bit naughty,
    mind.

I think it counts as "leaving the scene of an accident" even though she
    stopped and spoke to him.

Tell me about it. I just called AA Insurance to cancel the policy I had on
my personal car, it was renewed in September about 25 quid a month. They
want an additional 93 quid to cancel it <grrrr> oh hum

She was a minor at the time of the accident and therefore IIRC has 2
years from turning 18 to act.

Whereas sometimes if they think you'll cave in they'll take it to the
wire. The insurance company that I sued on behalf of the youngest
sprog when she was knocked down on a crossing caved in days before the
court date. Plod the lazy[1] f*ckers didn't do a proper investigation
so there was no prosecution of the driver[2].

So even with our accident reconstruction specialist proving the lights
were against him they prevaricated for another two years pushing up
their cost and mine - which they paid.[3]

[1] If they'd understood their own witness statements and the phasing
of the lights they would have been able to prove that they were red
for the driver and green for pedestrians and had been so for sometime.
[2] Not vindictiveness, it would have been so much easier to get the
civil case settled if they'd already lost in the criminal courts.
[3] By my back of a fag packet calculation they wasted about £30K
    needlessly on solicitors.

    think I would.

I didn't. Bumped the full time degree and took it up vocationally elsewhere
to to family and financial pressure.

I left school at 16, did an apprenticeship and also got well and truly
shafted by being knocked off my bike and not having the financial
backing to sue the fucker that battered me. I wish it had been
different, I would have claimed off the guy who had no insurance or
MOT certificate on his rusty old shit of a car but as a 17 year old
kid nobody gave a flying ****.

Tell me again why the girl in question commited fraud by claiming for
personal injuries in a case where neither you, nor I, know the actual
    circumstances.

If the system encourages someone to claim for injuries that would have
been chucked out 20 years ago then that doesn't mean the system is
wrong now rather than being wrong 20 years ago.

My first premium on the TS185 was £154.

The following November, one year older, one year's NCB: £270.

And that was *before* I told them about the PL10, PL20, CU10 and CU30.
