Just bust the zip on my leather trousers - shops have zips but they are too
    light duty - need a
beefier one to sew into the bottom of the leg area - anyone know where I can
    buy one and / or
where it could be fitted ? (Surrey / Hants / Berks area if poss)

  2. Getting it fitted is likely to be trickier still than sourcing one -
leather is a bit of a specialist area when it comes to sewing.

Find an olde worlde locksmith / shoe repairer.

Had the original plastic zips replaced with some brass type jobbies.

(This is a good thing, I'm assured - when I was studying Materials
Engineering at Uni, we saw a video to 'Design in Brass' for it's 'self
    lubrication' qualities)

Last time I had this problem I found a place in Aberdare, round the
corner from work. Not much help to you, but it shows there are still
    places like this around.

We have one in Bedford, it's like stepping back 40 years. I love the
place and the level of craftsmanship is astounding.

I go to a cobblers in Llandrindod Wells for such stuff. A father and son
team I think of as 'The Men Who Know'. They wear crimpolene trousers (Janet
says) but they are bloody good.

I know; no good to the original poster but one Millenium Dome project would
fund 175623 such skilled family concerns for 17.2 years - I know which I
    would support.

I seem to be getting off the point .....

Ok, this is from 1992, so things may have changed. There was a bike
shop in Croydon that I took some leathers to for alteration. They
    did a fine job.

I think I originally found them in the back of MCN. Go past East
Croydon station, towards the Lower Addington Road. turn left onto the
Lower Addington Road. The bike shop is on the left.

Lozzo will probably know the shop's name, etc.

Odells Cobblers on St Cuthberts Street. Town end of Castle Road there's
a Polish church that is a sort of roundabout, it's the road that heads
north to the Kimbolton Road/St Peters Street junction from there. Just
about 30 yards up on the left, opposite The Ship pub. Andy will know
    where I mean.

I only went there twice (dropping them off, and picking them up).
Could have been. Or at least, it could be now.
