Spada = Givi?

I've removed a topbox from my scoot and want to put it on my first
"proper" bike, a Kawasaki ER5. The box is made by Spada.

Everywhere I ring want's me to have a Givi mounting plate fitted, and
now I'm starting to see websites that suggest that spada and givi are
one and the same - is this right?

I'm told that a renntec rack at £60-odd would take the topbox,
although websites that sell it say it won't, and a "proper" rack for
my topbox will be around £80-£100.

Are Spada and Givi the same? If so, then my Spada topbox will fit onto
    a Givi plate?

Can someone also explain "monolock" and "monokey" to me?

    Thanks
    Jon

One common lock, one common key for all systems?

If you look at the Spada importer's page at
    http://www.feridax.com/product/0313866/3/3256/spada_top_case_sp26_black.html
you will see the "Spada" case has a Givi logo!

As Mark says, monolock & monokey are the 2 systems Givi use on their 2
different ranges of panniers. They are not interchangeable.

I can't tell whether the Spada cases are using the Monolock or Monokey
system. Comparing the pictures at http://www.givi.it/cases/ they look
more like Monolock, the scooter jobs, which fits your useage.

Why not rock up to a Givi dealer and try the case on a Monolock baseplate.
If that fits then buy one and adapt it to the ER5. List of dealers
    http://www.givi.it/Distributori-e-rivenditori-en/

Note: Givi make a specific kit for the ER5 but it is designed to take a
MonoKEY base plate for the larger motorcycle cases. Whether this fitting
kit takes a MonoLOCK baseplate is another thing.

HTH, rather than adds to the confusion.

To fit a topbox to a Renntec rack you'll want a universal top plate,
    which'll set you back £30-40.

And Renntec will cover their arses by saying you can't load more than
250 grammes onto the rack or the world will end: this is bollocks,
fortunately for the world. I've had ~30Kg on a Renntec rack for a
couple of hundred miles at speeds up to twice the legal maximum on a
    motorway and it was fine.

I've got the plate already. I've looked at Renntec racks but they all say
weight limit 2.5Kg, soft luggae only, not suitable for a topbox. Do you
    know different?

Interesting. Some real-world experience. Just what I was after!

There's a rack and box on ebay which I might for, failing that a renntec
    it is.

    Thanks chaps!

First emergency stop today after a dog suddenly appeared from betwixt 2
parked cars. Managed to stay on and not lock wheels :) Shredded nerves,
and the fucking dog owner did not even acknowledge that his animal had
caused a problem, let alone apologise to me. What rudeness!

I've put a lot more in a Renntec-mounted topbox than that, but not as
much as Pip. The limiting factors I found were the weight being high
and behind the rear wheel rather than rack strength.
