I passed through there last summer, but nothing stood out. If I were
spending time there, I think I'd stay further out the peninsula
towards Portonovo or Sanxenxo. Some quiet villages with nice beaches,
    cafes...

  4. That was the general area, I did find a nice looking hotel in
Sanxenxo, right by the sea. Is it a busy area?

Nor me. Looks close enough for an expedition to the Douro though. Mmm,
    port.

Vigo is good for refueling U-Boats, apparently.

I've been to Santiago and points East in Gallicia. Very nice regional
food (I don't really like much of the Southern Spanish cuisine).
Brilliant motorcycling roads, topography not unlike the Peak District.
Climate Atlantic rather than Mediterranean (obviously!). Very little
English spoken though most of the young people speak Spanish.

I thought you had a Lidl about 100m away or is going to Lidl & B&Q in the
same day too much of a reminder of your social status?

the Lidl isn't quite as close as 100m - more like 400m. However, I
have sufficient stocks of Merlot[1] and Shiraz to make it sort of
unnecessary - could well do tomorrow, though.

    [1] Ogden - leave it.

Not really, but there are certainly quieter places further out. The
entire coastline of Galicia is beautiful and you can find dozens of
nice villages to spend time in. I'd be hard pressed to pick one, but
Muros is probably my favorite town on that coast (North a couple of
"fjords.") And ~5km west of Muros is a tiny place called Ancoradoiro,
which has a campground and a couple of hotels.

  14. Go over the mountains and see the Pecos del Europa area if you are
touring the bikes then run till about 4 and go in a local bar and ask
for a place to sleep there is always a small bed only accommodation to
be found and they are good

  16. I spent a few days in the Picos a couple of years ago, a stunning
place, but we do want to be by the sea.
