Officially, Tenex, a division of Lockheed-Martin, is contracted to
operate the cameras as well as to staff and process the traffic camera
office where the fines are processed and sent out.

It's overseen by Victoria Police. OIC is Snr Sgt R. Ritchie.

Vicroads and Victoria Police supposedly determine where the cameras are
to be located and they claim that these locations are based on risk,
    high crash areas, etc..

Doesn't explain why they're located at bottom of hills on freeways such
as the world class Princes Freeway.

As an aside, L-M was sued in a class action suit in the US after it was
discovered that it was pretty well given free reign to deploy the
cameras, and it was discovered that they were being located in high
revenue areas, and not in high crash/risk areas. I don't know how it
panned out, but the government and Tenix came out and reckoned that this
    doesn't happen here.......

Tenix is a wholly Australian owned company, the company which manages
the cameras is LMT a joint venture between Lockheed and Tenix.

Unless it's changed in the last coupla years.
Hehehe yeah and I have this really nice bridge for sale too...

Now that you mention it, I dunno. I'm going on memory and what I read in
    the paper at the time.

I seem to recall someone claiming that the company that managed our
speed camera network also constructed the missiles that were being used
    on Iraqi civilians.....

And as no-one refuted the claim, I took it as gospel.

  6. There was an article in The Courier Mail Carsguide 27/10/2004 on
    hidden speed cameras.

In which the Minister for Police said that selected Queensland
Transport and The Police using recent road crash data and then
    approved by Traffic Advisory Committees.

But then again even if the cameras were not hidden and out in the open
we will still have people (especially from google aus.cars group)
still saying it is revenue raising.

As it seems some people are jealous that someone is doing something to
save lives rather then put lives at risk.

If speed cameras could save even one kiddie's life... they should send them
    all to Iraq.
