  1. There are unrestricted (no speed limit) roads in the UK, you plank.[/QUOTE]

Oh ... you mean like the A9 (which is what prompted the comment)

There's an A9 in Germany, it's a road with unrestricted sections. read
the thread properly and you'll see.

Apart from the A9 referred to not actually being in the UK...

Yes - that's the whole point.
Some simple minded things are totally useless.

Which was clearly deliberately misleading, since this is a UK group.

It is reasonable for the reader to assume you meant the UK unless you
    make it clear you didn't.

Not public roads. Or even any that most people would accept as *being*
    roads.

    You assumed. Wrongly.
*I* wasn't. Nor do I believe the person who posted it was. Look at the
    context :-

    # raden () gurgled happily, sounding much like they were
    # saying :
    #
    #> In message <>, Roderick
    #
#>>You shouldn't need to consider what happens at 120mph because you'll
#>>never be travelling that fast, will you?
    #
#> I used to travel that fast or faster every day on the way to work up
    #> the A9, so, yes

I'm at something of a loss at this thread. If I am riding or driving in
such a manner as to be placing no other road user at any (or any
additional) risk what business is my speed of movement to anyone else.
The entire concept of a "limit" is objectionable, context is everything.

You've never heard of the Isle of Man then? Check facts before shouting
    your mouth off next time.

    Yes.

    But perfectly normally.

When talking in a UK group, and giving a road number that is a major
road in the UK, with no other context, it is reasonable to assume that
is the road being talked about.

And I am quite sure the OP posted in the expectation that assumption
    would be made.
There is no doubt whatsoever in my mind that the person who posted it
    was being deliberately misleading.

He posted that hoping and expecting to get a reaction like the one he
    did, just to "score" points.

So when did the Isle of Man become part of the UK?

    Alex Heney, Mar 9, 2006

  15. No shit for brains - you read the thread in the order in which
postings were made. You will then see that the observation that
"raden" was wanker could easily have been made of yourself.

No, it's the price he pays for entering into a thread cross-posted to

Someone's tired, I can tell. FWIW I think Raden is a wanker, but that's
beside the point. Now Mr Strangled Smeg, **** off back to your dull
little existence and let the adults carry on in peace.

The trouble with you hard-core motoring types is you're all a bit
fucking anal. Now us bike riding bods seem to have it sussed, we speed,
we break the law now and then and we have a laugh. You 4-wheeled lot get
all fired up and upset about things like speed limits etc....ignore
    them, we do.
