There was also the Blacker Bombard that used the spigot priciple:

    Blacker Bombard
    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
    Jump to: navigation, search

The Blacker Bombard was a cheap anti-tank weapon devised by Lt-Col
Blacker in the early years of the Second World War. Although intended
for use by the regular units of the British Army it was replaced by
the PIAT before that was necessary and was given over to the British
    Home Guard for their use.

In 1940, Blacker, who was a private inventor of weapons, drew up the
Bombard based on the spigot discharger. The official designation was
29 mm Spigot Mortar (Blacker Bombard).

M42, M6 are dark coloured Volvo S80s. No different from a hundred
other executive cars driving to work every day.

There's probably more factors than just velocity, like angle, how tall
the kid is in relation to the vehicle, Mass of vehicle vs mass of kid,
what his/her stance was when hit, where it hit on the body, what part of
the body hit what part of the vehicle how many times, did they bounce
off or roll under the car, etc.

How much braking was done prior? If travelling at 35MPH and a kid runs
out in front, do you just carry on at 35MPH and hit them or do you
react? Take 10 cars travelling at 30MPH and a kid runs out in front of
each, I doubt that each car hits each kid at the same speed. Different
drivers react differently, different instances had different amounts of
time in which to react, etc.

Putting everything down to speed is the simple answer, because it's
something that can be measured simply.

For testing purposes, it probably shows to them your awareness of the
speed limit. If you were doing 29 in a 40 limit it might look to the
examiner that you think it's a 30 limit and therefore not paying attention.

    I'd agree with that.
Umm, hold the phone in my right hand?
Bad for your neck as well.

Also, it's the energy transmitted in the collision, innit. The
kinetic energy of a body rises as a square of the velocity if the mass
is constant. So a car moving at 35mph has 36% more energy compared
to a car travelling at 30, even though the speed is only 17% higher.
If you go to 40mph, the increase is 78%. Hence the quoted stats of
"at 40mph, 80% are killed; at 30mph, 80% survive" make sense.

This is based on a failed Physics O level from 1968, and could easily
    be 102% wrong.

Seen it? FFS, surely everyone does it, don't they? How else can you
    get your seatbelt on?

    Ace says...
My company Toyota Camry[1] had a PITA automatic seatbelt system that
slid on runner above the door. You couldn't help but wear a belt in that
car. One of the company Jaguars had something similar too.

Hold the wheel with my knees, yes if I needed to. I've done this more
than a few times, it's all a question of choosing the correct place to
make a call; i.e. somewhere that's not busy and doesn't have a large
number of junctions or curves. For example, on a motorway there's
little to be done in the way of steering or gear changing.

In any case, the 735's got an auto box so I don't need to change gear.

Come to that it's got a car kit but let's not let that get in the way.
I'm sure there are other reasons for that.

Absolutely terrifying for you I'm sure. I've got to sit down just
    thinking about it.
