Now the Government here in Vic is getting serious about speeding.
They've put in a proposal to have all new "Cars" sold here speed limited to
130kmh. I'm sure they'll quickly change that to "Vehicals" to cover
Motorbikes & Trucks. All in the name of cutting the Rd toll. I doubt it'll
make much differance, As I'm sure that few deaths are actually caused by
    speeds in excess off 130kmh.
I'm sure it won't take to long for the limiters to be gotten around if
    it does come in.
Will be interesting to see how the sale of new vehicals goes, I'm sure
it'll actually drop, And the sale of second hand vehicals increase.

    WRONG

    Not limited to 130 kmh
Just that the speedo not show more than 130 kmh.
    Re read the article aido.
    Stupid idea though regardless.

I can see how that might worry you, since you've sold the Hornet.
Maybe you should buy it back?
    Dunno.

I'd certainly expect the motor trade to be fairly thoroughly fucked by
it.....but that wouldn't cause me any pain.
Probably, but the powers that be are bound to put in some draconian
punishment for fiddling speed limiters......maybe crucifiction?
    Yup. :)

Same bunch of intellectual pygmies want to allow selling alcohol from
    vending machines in bars....

Apparently speed kills but free access to alcohol doesn't cause any
    problems...

/considering a permanent relocation away from the clowns who run this
    country.

The article in the age stated that bracks and Batchelor wanted
restrictions on the speedo range so that they showed no more than 130 kmh
anything you have heard on the radio after that is all typicl talkback
    radio scaremongering.
Have a google in aus.cars or the netrider forums for the article.

  7. Same bunch of intellectual pygmies want to allow selling alcohol from
Self regulation of the RSA laws. If you're sober enough to stuff your money
in the little slot, then you're sober enough for 1 more drink.

What I want to know though, is will the vendos be able to get good head on
    the beer?

James Mayfield is of the opinion:
More to the point, will you be able to get good head from the vending
    machine?

That is the true definition smee, but a couple of stations have been saying
"speedos limited to 130" which is awfuly close to "speeds limited to 130"
when it's said quickly... can you say 'beat up' ;-)

    This the NT Ministerial response:

The Territory Government last night dismissed a call to limit speedometer
    readings to 130km/h as "ridiculous".

The Labor Victorian Government has called for the speedometers on all new
cars to show a top speed of 130km/h - regardless of how fast they can
    actually go.

NT Transport and Infrastructure Minister Chris Burns said: "The Territory
has unlimited speed zones, so the notion that speedometers in the Territory
should be capped is clearly ridiculous. This appears to be just another
attempt by southern states to impose their road rules and driving conditions
    on Territory motorists."

Dr Burns said it had been shown that excessive speed was not a dominant
factor in the Territory's road toll.

That's been tried before, in the US in the 1970s(?) I can't remember
exactly, but I think that for a brief period motorcycles weren't
allowed to have speedos calibrated above 80mph in some states.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, suprising as it may seem it HAS
    happened before! ;-)

    Yes, 'Joan Claybrook'.

    This is Daniel Sterns (US Auto lighting and motoring commentators) response;

    "Amazing.

It's been tried (in the US for about a decade). It didn't do anything but
increase parts proliferation and therefore manufacturing costs and
    therefore purchase costs".

Perhaps just the game of "politics" at work. Interestingly this apparently
old idea.... never give these bastards much credit for being original, seems
to have co-incided with the media release from Ford re their intended
production of a particularly potent 6 cyl. turboed Falcon. There might be
some sort of a balance being sought.

  18. But I can't have been going 200kph your honour,
I kept a very close eye on my Gov Co supplied and calibrated
speedo, and it never showed more than 130!

Your welcome to take it to the track and try it yourself your honour.

Now, I am prepared to plead to the lesser charge of 20k over the limit. :-0

It's a bit different to the 1960's when shitboxes like small-six falcons had
speedos which went to 120mph but the car only went to ~75.
