In a similar, IIRC vein, I have a feeling that tests were done, many
years ago now, in Pommieland, which showed that drivers would drive
slower if they didn't have a speedo.

Now, I can see the logic in no speedo at all, but I like the idea of
being able to tell the judge..."No, I was only doing 130kph. That's what
    the speedo told me."

I think grey-import cars from Japanese are easily recognisable by their
    speedos which stop at 180kph.

As I recall, that was in Reagan's day; as a result of the Iranian
revolution there was an oil-price shock, and a national speed limit of
55mph was mandated by the big man himself. They were so
unsophisticated in their FUD back then. As BT says, it went as far as
special speedos for all types of vehicles, and earned squillions for
revenue raisers all over the country. I think everyone eventually lost
interest, it was repealed after a few years, by the smart Bush.

I wonder what Howard has in mind for our next oil shock (if we aren't
having one already). Besides his grubby 48% excise on each litre.

Thanks! Where would we be without you?
How's that? It is taken out of my wallet and deposited in Howard's piggy
bank, from whence it is used to bribe voters, incarcerate kiddies, and
generally pissed away on all sorts of stunts and ideological fantasies.
Yes, I do. Thanks for asking.

On the bikes, there's often a little red light on the speedo
which is meant to come on if you go over 80.

Par for the course. But only one can deliver.
Too true. There are a few loose ends where we can benefit, such as the
private health insurance rebate, which 'saved' me $8 on the price of my
ambulance subscription (a comfort for any touring motorcyclist).

So we can appreciate why you don't want to be one of 'you aussies'.
That's not the point. They're too poor to offer a 'contribution' to the
    Liberal Party.
Oi! Over 53% voted for someone else!

    So should we all.

Informal received more votes than the Nationals.. Maybe they should replace
    them in the coalition cabinet!

That AEC web page most definitely lists the number of Informal "votes" in the
"votes" column. They even listed the swing of +0.36%!

That has always been and persists in being one of the most fallaciously
stupid arguments ever invented by the disenfranshised.

(Notwithstanding that the Liberal party had the highest percentage of any
    party anyway).

What are the results after distribution of preferences?

One must always play by the rules, and cannot claim 'unfair' after losing
(except in a gerrymander - are you claiming a gerrymander??)

Is that of relevance in a Federal Election? Does it change Federal results?
