SpeedFerries cancelling tickets for Motorcycles from 1st May 2007

  1. Got an email yesterday cancelling my tickets for a trip next month. This is
    their excuse:

    Dear Customer,

Please accept my deepest personal apologies for having to cancel your
motorcycle booking with SpeedFerries. Unfortunately, we will have to stop
carrying all kinds of motorcycles from 1 May 2007. I am really sorry to
have to take this step, which I sincerely hope will be a temporary measure
only. However, with the present concept of port turnaround time and
loading/discharge and even more importantly the lack of safe lashing for the
bikes onboard I have to take this decision. At the moment carrying
motorcycles is loss making for SpeedFerries due to the above mentioned
problems and due to a vast number of huge claims for damages. I ask for your
understanding as the present concept is unacceptable for our motorcycle
customers as well as for the company and I promise to revisit the options
    again as soon as possible.

Quite a reasonable excuse. They appear to admit not having the
correct stuff to take the bikes safely and are probably fed up of
losing money by having to pay people for damaged paintwork, etc.

They could, of course, just get the right stuff to carry bikes, but I
assume this would mean the ship would have to have the right holes in
the floor to grab hold of, like P&O do.

It might be worth noting that the price for a day return or a three
day return from Dover > Calais on P&O has increased for me from £8.20
last year to £9.60 for the trip I just booked to travel on tomorrow.

Not sure if P&O are now increasing their prices now that SpeedFerries
aren't an option anymore or not.

    In
I have an unused ticket held over from last year, any idea if they're
refunding them? They had told me I could use it any time within 12 months
from last August but as they've now stopped carrying bikes I guess they'd
    have to refund?
