    Surprise, surprise.

Despite the noises they made about having a refinancing plan, Speedferries
has announced that it is in administration
    http://www.speedferries.co.uk/

At least LDLines are coming along next year to cock a snook at P&O, Sea
    France & Eurotunnel

£100 more expensive (Newhaven Dieppe) than for my next Eurotunnel jaunt
    (admittedly in Xmas peak period).

I'll have a look at any frequent traveller deals on offer for their
Dover Boulogne crossing, but it will have to be very good to lure me
    away from Le Shuttle.

Trouble with those crossings is that their timings are OK for the
outward bound one, but fecking inconvenient on the returns.

I've tried to negotiate Portsmouth-Le Havre crossings before, for
French Runs. I was able to do it, on the service to Caen rather than
Portsmouth, when POSL ran that route, returning via Calais. The
overnight crossings are comfortable, wiv a cabin, as long as you don't
    have CT snoring in it.

The return times are useless for French runs (unless you desperately
want to get up early on Sunday morning), hence the return via Calais.

I might have another go at trying for a group deal from Brittany
Ferries, but they have always been utter buggers in the past, and
refused to grant any kind of group discount.

    :

I quite like the LDLines times, which are very similar to what P&O had on
the Le Havre route. 11pm out, 7am arrival in LeH. Return from LeH at 445pm
ish local time, back in Pompey for 930pm.

This lets you have a full travelling day at the beginning of your holiday
(I was in a bar in the Black Forest by 4pm last time I used the service).
On your last day you can have a leisurely drive to the port, take lunch in
Honfleur. Dinner on the boat and be in bed by midnight. A much nicer
travelling experience for anyone living west of Reading, as long as you
    have seal[1] legs.

[1] the typo made me giggle so I've left it in

Yes, this is the bit that worries me. We haven't had a bad crossing yet,
but I know it's just a matter of time.

  11. Wrong way up the coast for this trip I know, but useful for future
    reference.

Norfolk Line do a crossing every 2hrs Dover -> Dunkirk (Crossing Time 1hr
    45m).

£54 all inc return for a bike.

I've used them a few times for Nordschleife trips and they've been
    excellent.
